In a highly contemporary setting, welcome to an emblematic glassworks that has set itself the goal of producing pieces with exceptional characteristics. The Barovier family has been practicing its art for more than 700 years. Its activity is intimately linked to the history of the Republic of Venice, as it is to several of its members that we owe the development of local glassmaking skills. The small exhibition at 28 Fondamenta dei Vetrai is well worth a visit for the technical nature of its work and the magic of its colors.

Welcome to the kingdom of quality craftsmanship. According to an ancestral know-how, the owner of the place works all kinds of objects from beautiful and old papers: small and large notebooks, pencil cases, pockets, small purses, notepads, old lithographs... and even earrings in the shape of books! The colours chosen (yellow, green, orange, red, purple, blue) enhance many objects, themselves sublimated by typical Venetian motifs (inspired by the architecture of palaces, arches, cross-warping).

At the corner of the elegant Corso Venezia, here is the store of Fornasetti, a Milanese company of international renown, famous for the design and decoration of rather luxurious furnishing objects. Founded by designer Piero Fornasetti in the 1950s, the house is best known for its intriguingly feminine plates. Among the many objects on offer are the Notte Fornasettiana panels in printed and hand-lacquered wood, the Combacio Malachite sofa in jacquard fabric and the Palladiana chest of drawers in printed and lacquered wood.

An enchantment, this glass factory. We find it at the end of a long alley. The business is a family one, run by Raffaele, his brother Mauro and his sister Claudia, forty-somethings who have succeeded their father, who founded the company in 1989. The workshop is located on the first floor. You may have the chance to observe these craftsmen at work. They work the glass with a blowtorch, shape it, decorate it, then place it in the oven before letting it rest. Meanwhile, on the first floor, the store welcomes customers who have come to purchase their subtle and exquisite works.

In Piazza dei Signori, in front of the Palladian Basilica, a sumptuous store where fabrics of all kinds and colors dress the shelves and various displays with a grandiose brilliance and a meticulous order. At Manpreso, we specialize above all in artisanal know-how, in handmade sewing, in the making of custom-made outfits for women and men. The other activity of this family business is the marketing of a range of select leather goods.

For five generations, that's over a century, the Terra Sarda craftsmen have been creating unique objects from clay, diversifying production as time and fashion dictate. Not only is it beautiful and there's something for every taste (crockery, chandeliers, vases...), but the icing on the cake is that you can visit the workshop, see the craftsmen at work and chat with them. The objects are truly original, a far cry from classic, all-purpose pottery. Our favorite is the "Gallinella blu sealine" collection.

On the banks of the Tiber at the level of the Milvio bridge and up to the Duca d'Aosta bridge, the Mercatino di Ponte Milvio is a sort of flea market where you can find some interesting items, period objects that will particularly appeal to collectors and lovers of old-fashioned crafts. The setting of the market, between river and greenery, is very suggestive. A fun way to discover this area of Rome that is not very popular with tourists, but is nevertheless very pleasant.

Between magic and beliefs, drama and comedy, Graziano Vale sees in the mask a desire of man to disguise himself and immerse himself in the imagination. He has carried out numerous researches and studies on the transformation of the mask in the Mediterranean culture in order to perpetuate this tradition. Originally from the north of Italy, he arrived in Sardinia to study Phoenician-Punic ritual masks. He chose to stay there to make typical Sardinian masks, Phoenician masks or commedia dell'arte in an artisanal way.

Fiorenza Elisabetta knows her island like nobody else. She has climbed all the mountains, pacouru all the plains and visited all the villages to bring back the best of Sardinian handicrafts. Coral from Alghero and filigrees from Nuoro, carpets from Mogoro and knotted stitch embroidery, ceramics from Dorgali or Siniscola, baskets from Oristano and trinkets from everywhere, no skill from Sardinia is missing. The address is excellent for gifts or simply to learn about the various crafts before embarking on a tour of the island.

This workshop produces contemporary ceramic objects inspired by traditional motifs. Graziella di Murtas and Andrea Spiga have mastered the graffito technique, which consists of engraving the biscuit with a hard point. The ceramics are fired twice to give them their lustre. The collections that come out of the imagination of the two women offer plates, vases, dishes with sober lines and decorations. A summer showroom is located in the square of Carloforte on the island of San Pietro (south of the west coast).

The Salaris brothers take their trade from previous generations who, since time immemorial, have passed on the art of forging and cutlery to each other. Respectful of tradition, they make knives in a completely traditional way, from the forging of the steel blade to the handle made of ram's horn, deer horn, heather or ebony wood. They ensure that their knives are flawless in order to satisfy a particularly demanding clientele of connoisseurs. Some pieces are true works of art.

Founded in the 1980s, Studio Puck is an artisanal silk-screen printing workshop that produces hand-painted prints, many of which are inspired by images from old books. Quite an atmosphere! You'll discover (super) decorative objects for the home, from vases to furniture to light fixtures, all hand-decorated by the studio's talented craftsmen. In the face of mass production, what a pleasure to find craftsmanship "made in Florence"! The left bank of the Arno is definitely full of surprises!

Vittorio Mura, now deceased, was a real institution in Santu Lussurgiu. He was one of those blacksmiths who raised cutlery to the rank of art. His "resolzas", knives with folding blades, are highly sought-after and are the subject of a market. Collectors and tourists continue to visit his workshop, taken over by his three sons. He has passed on to them his passion and talent for highly crafted knives. The most elaborate pieces require hours of work, such as those with damascened blades. The prices can then soar.

Elena Mulas makes rugs, tapestries, curtains and textile accessories with talent according to an ancient traditional Sardinian method that she is the only one to perpetuate on the island. She uses noble natural materials such as wool, linen and cotton. She also mixes asphodel with wool to create luminous patterns that seem to be made of golden threads. When you make an appointment, Elena will welcome you and show you her work on vintage machines in her workshop, located on the outskirts of Urzulei.

Majola is a showcase for artistic creation and craftsmanship in Sardinia. The vast store is brimming with traditional products and original creations inspired by ancestral know-how. You'll be able to admire the variety of the island's craftsmanship, its great finesse and the naivety of its recurring motifs. You'll find carpets, ceramics, baskets, furniture, wooden statuettes, wicker baskets and lampshades... A veritable Ali Baba's cave, but airy and tidy. The products are affordable and of good quality.

A few experienced workers perpetuate the textile tradition that has been handed down from mother to daughter for generations in the region. The shop is there to sell the products but with a bit of luck it will be possible to visit the workshop of this small cooperative installed on the edge of the Ulassai tacco. There you can see the looms at work and buy beautiful handmade linen (rugs, towels, tablecloths...).

This gallery, founded in 1930, is a reference for antiquities. Furniture, sculptures, mosaics, cameos, marbles, bronzes and paintings from the medieval to the neoclassical period are presented on two floors in a magnificent space with an inner courtyard. This gallery has contributed to the development of many private art collections and sometimes organizes exhibitions. The entrance is sober and in no way suggests the beauty and artistic opulence of its interior.

Since 1910, this store has been working with local products and producing superb leather articles. From book covers to wallets, napkins, leather bags and travel notebooks, the store is full of treasures for those who love quality stationery and accessories. There are also wax pads that will give a certain charm to your next writings. The friendly and welcoming staff will give you very good advice on finding the right item for your needs. Together, the Nieddu brothers perpetuate the tradition of filigree goldsmithing with contemporary creations that draw on archaic know-how. The adventure began with Cristian who opened his workshop in Dorgali in 1995. He brought along his two brothers, Francesco and Salvatore, who brought their professional contribution to this family business. The creations mix gold or silver, coral fragments, pearls or semi-precious stones, defining new styles and enriching the repertoire of filigree.

The Galerie Umberto I, one of Turin's three ancient shopping arcades, built on a former hospital and inaugurated in 1890, links the city center with the Roman Quadrilateral. It is home to a number of attractive shops, including this gallery, which is packed with design objects, many of which revolve around the capital of Piedmont or the region.
