Mainly located in the city, nightclubs are generally open Thursday to Saturday from 10pm to 2am, a little earlier on weekdays. As for activities to enjoy with friends (cinema, billiards, bowling, etc.), opening times vary according to the type of establishment and its location. On weekdays, they close around 11pm or midnight. In Dublin, Belfast, Cork, Galway or Limerick, many shows are also programmed in large theaters.
In addition to the big shows and concerts scheduled in the country's major venues, many traditional music concerts are offered in pubs all over the country... for the price of a Guinness to be drunk on the spot and in song!
Only concerts, plays and big shows require reservations. Check out the program at Dublin's 3Arena or Belfast's SSE Arena.
In Dublin, there are a few night bus routes on the Nitelink network. Have a few coins ready to pay the driver directly. Otherwise, in the rest of the country, it's on foot or by cab!
In discos and pubs, the minimum age for entry is 18.
In Ireland, especially in big cities like Dublin, people like to dress up for a night out. Whatever the season (and whatever the weather), stilettos, evening dresses and shirts are de rigueur for partying!
No smoking indoors: head for the terrace or smoking areas in nightclubs.
In Dublin's Temple Bar and other city-center spots, there are plenty of touts offering you entry to the various pubs, nightclubs and bars. Even if you're offered entry or a free first drink, it's unlikely you'll come across many locals in such establishments.
