The PSP is responsible for various activities, including road safety, private security, weapons and explosives, as well as the Estou Aqui program for children. In 2021, PSP provided 2,392 private security training courses and issued 1,233 sport shooting licenses. It also reported 1,039 elderly people in vulnerable situations and carried out roadside checks on 911,636 vehicles in 2019. Secure communication is also a PSP concern, with the Segura School set up in 1992. Finally, the PSP publishes the magazine Polícia Portuguesa to inform the public about its activities.

Gavião has four parishes (Gavião and Atalaia, Belver, Comenda and Margem) spread over an area of almost 300 km², with 3,400 inhabitants in the municipality alone. There's a Soap Museum (4 in the world!) and the Belver Museum of Blankets and Tapestries.
