Mr. and Mrs. Caby love what they do, and Frit'House'L is immediately reassuring when you notice the cooking and the organization that goes with it. The fries are naturally "homemade" and cooked twice in beef fat. The menu includes a dozen burgers based on pure beef burgers, grills, main courses and sandwiches or wraps. Given the small size of the place, the menu has also been streamlined: only one size of cornet, a limited assortment of sauces, well-chosen side dishes (meat or veggie fricadelle, chicken wings...) or an excellent Angus beef burger.

Founded more than 60 years ago, "Robert" is one of the most venerable and revered institutions in Charleroi. Robert " La Frite " specialises in old-fashioned French fries. Having never given in to the current fashion, people still don't sit down to eat. The opportunity to pick your fingers in your mayonnaise or to bite into your "bicky sauce bicky" while observing the surrounding area is unmistakable. Even more so after a victory of the local Sporting or during a return of a little too much watered guindaille. Robert is open late at night and that's part of the charm.

The service is provided by the granddaughter of Mr. Charles, the founder of the chip shop... which is still called friture according to an old belgicism. The family business has existed since 1956 and is still successful after more than sixty years of existence: you have to be patient to be served at peak times! Here you can enjoy Belgian bintje cooked in the traditional way in beef fat. At lunchtime only, the good old paper cone invites you in for some nostalgia. Eaten with your fingers, it's even better!

For more than three decades, the chip shop has been a must in the area and we don't see what could change that! Because here, the owner was elected Knight of the National Order of the Golden Cornet (a title that has never been awarded since) and remains attentive to the quality of the oil and the potato. These are the two criteria necessary to obtain a good fry, along with the calibration that gives a full and crispy fry. Remember that the potatoes come from the same farmer for thirty years and that the fries are calibrated 13 mm.

The address is more than recommendable. The beef fat fries are crisp and tasty. The meat for the burgers, kebabs and pittas is homemade, as is the American food, which is prepared fresh. The owner and his wife are as rigorous about product preparation as they are about hygiene. Copious portions can be taken away or eaten on the spot.
