CRAB CLUB
Read moreCrab isn't the only thing on offer at the Crab Club, a small canteen-style establishment near Porte de Hal! Other seafood (crustaceans, shellfish, fish) and a few meats are lovingly handled by Yoth Ondara, a Nîmes chef of Thai origin. What characterizes the menu? Asian touches (sea bream with pak choi, duck with Chinese cabbage) and interesting land-sea combinations (glazed pork with octopus, mussels with sausage). A real treat at a fair price. In early 2022, the restaurant underwent a facelift, providing an opportunity to (re)discover it.
FISKESKUR
Read moreIt's the little brother of Fiskebar, which only opens in summer in the Eilandje district. With a name like that, you'll have guessed that it serves fish and seafood, as well as vegetarian dishes. Everything is organic and local, with fish on the menu according to the day's arrivals. Raw, cooked or grilled, the aim is to maintain the purity of the product, like these just-grilled sardines accompanied by a vegetable pickle and sprouted lentils. Enjoy them on the huge terrace overlooking the basins, or inside a glass box that resembles a greenhouse.
DE BLAUWE KIOSK
Read moreThe people of Ghent flock here every Sunday. It's a real old-fashioned kiosk, but where flowers and newspapers have given way to a veritable oyster bar, where you can enjoy oysters standing up or at the counter, accompanied by a glass of wine. This is the heart of Ghent. It's the place to meet and strut your stuff on the Kouter. The oysters, on the other hand, come from France, not from Belgium. But who cares, we'll have a few fines de claires d'Oléron with a good dry white wine to fill up on vitamins and iodine.

BELEGDE BROODJES EL CASTILLO
Read moreIt looks like a fisherman's hut, it's tiny and cute. You'll find the widest selection of this North Sea specialty, belegde broodjes, filled breads in short, many made with the catch of the day at rock-bottom prices. There are even hot breads and paninis. A lovely discovery, open only in the morning and at lunchtime. We recommend making an assortment to sample the various specialties, and taking it away for a picnic on the beach.
HET KOMPAS
Read moreRain, shine or shine, this brasserie on the seawall is open summer and winter, offering attentive service. The warm, rustic, long-winded decor is perfect for sitting down, facing the sea. From the menus printed daily, it's a safe bet that the cuisine here is seasonal, or even of the day - depending on the catch. The wines come from countries as diverse as Spain, South Africa, Argentina and Chile: enough to take a stroll and enjoy.
THE JANE
Read moreOpened in 2014, this restaurant is a mecca for Antwerp gastronomy, the brainchild of chef Nick Bril, who worked for over 15 years under three-starred chef Sergio Herman. Housed in the former chapel of a military hospital, the setting is as majestic as the food. The open kitchens offer a fabulous spectacle. The tasting menu is expensive, but includes two paired wines. On the1st floor, the Jane's bar offers equally refined cocktails. Reservations are recommended at least three months in advance.
