The Madeira Carnival is one of the major festivities of the calendar. A real festival of colours with the rhythm of samba!
From the beginning of the weekend before Shrove Tuesday, fanfares and samba sound in the streets of the capital, which is preparing to live the colourful carnival festivities for more than 10 days. On Saturday, thousands of revellers, Madeirans and visitors alike, flock to attend the allegorical procession, the highlight of the carnival. The floats parade and the costumes compete in eccentricity. For Shrove Tuesday, the trapalhão procession takes over. Everyone puts on their craziest disguise to take part in the parade in a collective euphoria.
