Located north of the city center and truly impossible to miss, lies Łodź's largest forest, which is also one of Europe's largest urban parks! If you're staying in Łódź, you really must make an excursion here. The forest here is beautiful and calm, far from the industrial bustle of its city, and is home to a superb 18th-century Franciscan Baroque convent, with a famous depiction of St. Anthony. You can get there easily by public transport from the city center, as well as by VTC or car if you're motorized.

KAMPINOS NATIONAL PARK (KAMPINOSKI PARK NARODOWY)

Some 30 km west of Warsaw stretches a large forest, Poland's largest national park, surprisingly close to the capital (it starts directly after the suburbs). It is a popular place to hike from the Varsoviens to the beautiful season. Rich in fauna and flora typical of the forests of north-eastern Europe (elk, lynx, wild boar, conifers and marshy plants), it was a humid environment that was once covered by the Vistula waters. A beautiful ecosystem easily accessible from Warsaw.

Leszno, and Kampinos 12 km north, are located in the park. One can, for example, randonner from one village to another. There are several other proposed and marked circuits. The centre of the park is located in Granica, 5 km north of Kampinos, with a museum on the fauna and flora of the park. So, if you have good legs and if you get up early, take a complete route from Leszno, go to Kampinos, take a detour to Granica and take the bus back to Kampinos.

You can reach the villages of Kampinos or Leszno by bus from Warsaw station Zachodnia (west), frequent until the end of the day in both directions. Check back times before you leave, although you can return by taxi to the capital. The two villages are on the road to Baptized Wola, if you are motorized, you can easily combine the two excursions.

SŁOWIŃSKI PARK NARODOWY NATIONAL PARK (SŁOWIŃSKI PARK NARODOWY)

On a surface of 186 km ², this natural park is the largest in Pomerania. It extends from Łeba to more than 30 km west along the sea coast. Created in 1967, the park has been inscribed in the UNESCO Biosphere Reserve List since 1977. It contains, in addition to a few small villages, coastal dunes, forests, lakes, lanterns and peatlands. One quarter of its area is occupied by forests, one quarter by a set of four lakes, including Łebsko and Gardno lakes. Łebsko Lake, the largest in Pomerania (70 km 2), houses over 250 species of birds, migratory or non-migratory, posing as a true ornithological paradise. The most impressive part of the park is its sand dunes.

In Łeba you can get a detailed map that allows you to visit the park, whose entrance is located in Rąbka, 2-3 km outside Łeba. The park can be traveled by bike (on time), by bus (single or round trip) or by foot. In Rowy you can also rent kayaks (++48 607 512 740, 10 zper per hour). In summer, boats turn around Łebsko Lake (++48 +48 59 86 19 12, www.lebskiserwisturystyczny.pl, 14 zl). From the main road to the dunes, paths allow you to reach the beach. It is possible to swim. Think of your swimsuits before entering the park to enjoy some of the most beautiful beaches in the country.

The history of this beautiful ten-hectare park is closely linked to the Cistercian presence in Oliwa. It was the last Cistercian abbot of Oliwa, Jacek Rybiński (1701-1782), who commissioned Kazimierz Dębinski to design formal gardens, which even today occupy the southwestern part of the park, while to the north lie the English gardens. With its paths, rivers, grottoes and waterfalls it provides an enchanting setting for a picnic or a brief nature getaway on a sunny day.

The park presents itself as an Italian baroque garden on two levels, situated between the palace and the lake. Following the French-style gardens in the south, a romantic English-style park includes beautiful buildings, sarcophagi, columns and obelisks. It was created in the th century. In these parks you will find charming details of kitsch architecture, such as the waterfall over the Roman Bridge in the English garden, the solar dial, work of the great Polish astronomer Jan Heweliusz, inventor of the telescope, and the sculptures "love" in the French park. The latter symbolize the four stages of love: firstly, fear during the meeting; then the first kiss; secondly, indifference (represented by the two figures who do not look); finally, the first dispute.

This very romantic and beautiful skansen presents in an idyllic setting the rural life in Upper Silesia through its architecture, before the region became an industrial desert that continues to pollute its soil and air. On 20 hectares of idyllic countryside, some 70 buildings from the late 18th to the early 20th century have been brought together, including traditional thatched houses, granaries, historic wooden churches, calvaries and windmills. There is even an old Karczma (inn) for eating and drinking beer.

This park is definitely worth a visit, especially when the weather's nice. It was sculptor Paweł Althamer, a native of the Praga district, who persuaded the local authorities to turn Bródno Park into an open-air museum, exhibiting sculptures by both Polish and foreign artists. Perhaps the most surprising piece is Althamer's reconstruction of part of the park based on children's ideas of the Garden of Eden.

The site of the mighty fortress(cytadela), built by the Prussians in the 1830s. A terrible battle was fought here between the Germans and Soviets in 1945. Today, only a few remnants remain, where a military museum(Muzeum Uzbrojenia, open daily from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., closed on Mondays) has been set up, with a large collection of weapons and an exhibition of tanks and military vehicles. The park is magnificent and crowded with visitors in all seasons.

Situated at the foot of the Old Town, on the banks of the Vistula, this park is one of Warsaw's favorite summer spots. The key to its success? It's simple: on one side, two fountains and a paddling pool for children guarantee a cool haven even in the height of summer, while on the other side, 300 coloured spotlights create light shows, always accompanied by classical or pop music.

NAREW NATIONAL PARK

Natural site to discover

This park covers a surface of 227 km ² southwest of Białystok. It is famous for the extent of the wetlands that make it up. The best way to go remains the boat. The park houses a multitude of animal and plant species adapted to the aquatic environment. Due to the importance of the aquatic environment, fauna and flora are often adapted. Without a boat, the visit is much more limited because 25% of the territory is covered with impassable marshes. The two closest villages, starting points of excursions, are Kurowo and Waniewo. In Kurowo, you will find a cheap hotel as well as a canoes. In Waniewo, a little larger and less isolated village, you will find some accommodation in the living area as well as boats for rent. Note that these two villages are not connected by public transport, and that the nearest cities are Tykocin and Białystok. You will have to use the car or bike, or otherwise do not be afraid to walk several kilometres to join them.

monastery, both dating from the 17th century. The environment is wild and you can enjoy a beautiful view of Kielce and its surroundings. It is not really a park that lends itself well to hikes of several days, nor even really a park that can be visited for hours.
