This charming guesthouse located at 200 meters from the Fort has a major asset: a garden with a real nice swimming pool! The maze of stairs and half-levels lead to pretty and comfortable rooms (air-conditioning, private bathroom, mattresses on the floor or beds of your choice) distributed in four traditional houses. From the rooftop decorated with carpets and from the restaurant with chairs and tables made of raw materials, the view plunges on the oasis and the old houses. On the first floor, we take coffee and dates in the adorable majilis.

In the heart of the old town, a hamlet of several 16th century houses has been restored to its original state, as a legacy of another era. Each house has a few rooms, some of which are blind, but all of which are comfortable, air-conditioned, and typical of the area, with a private bathroom attached or on the landing. The majilis are quiet places to rest and read, and some houses even have an outdoor rooftop from which to admire the oasis of Nizwa. Possibility of privatization for small groups or families. The site is stunning! Planted on the side of a mountain on the edge of the void, The Suwgra is a traditional hamlet over 500 years old, with dry-stone houses arranged in staircases to match the rugged topography. For a night or a few days of total disconnection, it doesn't get much better than this! It's a charming place, with terraced lounges from which to admire the landscape, comfortable rooms (private bathroom with shower or bathtub) but very typical, and delicious local cuisine. The view of the mountains from all sides is breathtaking!

In the historic center of Taqah, this is Dhofar's only traditional guesthouse, renovated with meticulous care. It occupies the former home of an honorable merchant. Built over 150 years ago, it is a precious witness to the past. On three levels, 12 rooms with shared or private bathroom occupy the various rooms with walls made of local clay and stone. Furnishings and objects from the past, old-fashioned kitchens and sculpted doors all contribute to an immediate immersion. Breakfast is served facing the fort in the ground-floor café.

Located opposite Bait Aljabal, in the heart of the old village with its mud houses, this recently-opened traditional home has 6 rooms for rent. Like its neighbor, it has been restored in keeping with local architecture, and its cob walls and wooden ceilings have been preserved. However, no attempt has been made to decorate the house. No matter, we've come for the experience! There's no restaurant on site, so make a reservation next door! From the pretty roof terrace, you can enjoy views over the old village and the oasis.

Rashid, the owner, has painstakingly restored this ruined house. The 10 air-conditioned rooms, with beds (not mattresses on the floor) and private bathrooms, are unpretentious but very comfortable: dark wood, natural ochre and beige tones, carpets to warm you up... a rather sober, almost chic decor. A traditional buffet is served for dinner, but there are eggs and pancakes for breakfast! A 45-minute guided tour of the oasis is offered to every guest.

This charming new guesthouse is located in the part of the old town where the restoration of the ramparts has already been completed. The 18 comfortable rooms, all with air-conditioning and private bathroom, are arranged around an inner courtyard for breakfast, and a lovely old-fashioned pool for a refreshing dip. Privacy is limited, as the rampart walkway plunges directly into the pool, hence the interest of the indoor pool. A little extra: room 209 has its own whirlpool bath.

In all, there are 12 rooms for 2 to 4 people, set into the mountainside and surrounded by greenery, for a totally immersive stay. Each room has its own bathroom, air conditioning and heating, and a restaurant. Nearby signposted hiking trails and panoramic viewpoints.

In the heart of the old village, not far from the Bait Al Safah museum, or in the cool gardens of the nearby palm grove, you'll find a number of old houses that have been entirely restored in keeping with their original architecture: adobe walls, old ceilings, small windows and magnificent wooden doors. Situated just before the entrance to the old village on the right, overlooking the superb oasis, this terraced house was one of the first to be rehabilitated for tourism. The well-appointed complex comprises a beautiful majilis from which to admire the view and relax, and a number of simple but comfortable rooms, all with air conditioning and shared bathrooms. In the modern part of the village of Al Hamra, Ahmed and his family welcome guests on the first floor of their own house, where they have set up 3 bedrooms - 2 with two single beds and a family room for 4. The simplicity of the setting doesn't detract from the modern comforts: free wifi, air conditioning, private bathroom and mini-fridge in every room. This is the Oman of today, not an old-fashioned guesthouse. In the end, we'll remember Ahmed's kindness and the convenient location rather than the neon lights above the bed! In the heart of the ruins of the old village of Al Hamra, here's a lovely address. This old family home, built of clay some 300 years ago, has been remarkably restored and since 2022 has offered a handful of double or family rooms, all air-conditioned and decorated in a sober but well-appointed style. Some rooms share a bathroom, while others have a private one - please enquire when booking. A detail that's rare enough to be worth mentioning: breakfast is very copious, with fruit, cheese and even pastries!

Impossible to miss this new guesthouse camped, like a citadel, at the top of a rocky outcrop leading the guard at the entrance to the old village. One immediately dreams of reaching the panoramic restaurant which offers the expected view of the oasis and the hamlet. Inside, however, the tiling breaks the charm. Although the rooms for 2 to 5 people are comfortable with private or shared bathrooms, they do not distil the local and pretty old-fashioned atmosphere of the other establishments. Choose them as a last resort or just drop in for a coffee.

The main advantage of Tiwi Sunrise is its location, just a few hundred meters from the freeway exit, on the seafront opposite the large Tiwi beach and, above all, in the immediate vicinity of the Shab and Tiwi wadis. The rest is fine: spacious, comfortable rooms, an on-site restaurant (practical, but unpretentious meals). A small swimming pool, a shady garden and a children's playground make for a relaxing break after a wadi escapade. On line: interesting overnight half-board package with guided tour of a wadi.

A family of local potters has just restored this ancient residence in old Nizwa and opened it to travelers. The attention to detail, decoration and comfort is immediately apparent. Everything has been well thought out: the pretty air-conditioned rooms with private bathrooms (one with a Jacuzzi bathtub), the rooftop terrace, the large shady courtyard-garden where breakfast is served in the morning, and which, come evening, is beautifully lit by luminous lights - during the day the place will no doubt become a café.
