Situated on the waterfront, this restaurant enjoys a solid reputation thanks to its daily deliveries of seafood and fresh fish. Oysters, Mozambican prawns, kingklip, lobsters... The menu offers an impressive choice of seafood products, but also Mexican dishes, pizzas, soups... The dishes are very hearty and you can enjoy them on the wooden terrace on stilts, waterfront style. Often crowded, the place is quite touristy, but is well worth the detour.

Set up in the warehouses of a former fishery, the interior of the restaurant resembles the cabins of English ships and one is greeted by waiters dressed in foam. This restaurant receives quality fish and shellfish directly. It is famous for its succulent fisherman's basket: squid, mussels, shrimps, fish and lobsters. The outside terrace, upstairs, is the most pleasant place to enjoy the view of the bay and to spot sea lions. Remember to make reservations, especially at weekends, as the place is busy.

In a pop-art, baroque chic style, the Burgundy Restaurant. To set the tone, clocks of all shapes or a wall lined with black and white photos of faces. The dishes are extremely well presented and good, even if the menu looks classic. Lots of local wines and fresh fish, caught the same day in Hermanus. Reservations are recommended, especially for a table on the terrace. Please note that the Burgundy works closely with Creation wines,an estate located in the heights of Hermanus. Fish and seafood to the fore in this beautiful residence dating back to 1860, one of the oldest in the city. The Belgian chef prepares excellent fish soups, fried mussels, tartar accompanied by fried squid and a curry lamb for carnivores. The dishes are served on the pleasant terrace decorated with fishing nets.

The Nguni Restaurant, a listed building, is located in the centre of Plettenberg. The menu is typically South African with a creative twist. Tuna carpaccio, ostrich steak, shrimp marinated in garlic and grilled a la plancha, peri-peri chicken, or vegetarian dishes such as roasted cauliflower steak or falafel bowls. The chefs are passionate about cooking and go out of their way to use fresh, local and seasonal ingredients whenever possible. A great address in Plett.

Ever since the Lighthouse Café opened its doors, everyone has been flocking there to enjoy its brightness, character and good food. Fish and chips, scrambled egg and bacon croissants, good fresh salads, garnished and colourful: in short, everything to enjoy and a beautiful atmosphere, a little French, a little Provencal, a little coastal with its shades of pastel blue. At Die Strandloper, there's a sort of feast air. Lanterns float under the sun or in the moonlight, some wooden tables have their feet in the sand, the sound of the waves can be heard in the background... A fabulous stopover on the beach of Langebaan, for a seafood ventrée, mussels, a seafood curry, or a waterblometjiebredie followed by a moerkoffie. No questions asked here, one price for everyone. And for the children? They pay according to their size! You're still thinking, really?

Good jazz club and restaurant on a waterfront wharf. The dishes have special names: Casa Luma calamari, Parker's surfer, Soldberg's fresh water prawns.

Finally, here's a casual restaurant that's not in a shopping mall or next to the road! Leave your car in the parking lot and enter the realm of fresh fish. Walk down the wooden steps, leave the first room behind and reach a beautiful tropical garden. There, under the soft foliage, beware all the same of birds' nests, you will finally feel... in Africa. Simply choose your fish or seafood on the ice bench and off you go to the grill! Extra.

Have we ever seen anything so grandiose? Imagine a room with a fountain at its centre, made up of four three-metre-high elephants spitting water through their trunks, bronze monkeys holding the wall lights and, twenty-nine metres higher up, hanging as a chandelier, bronze palms diffusing the light of thousands of shards of rock crystal. Mzoli's: an institution in Cape Town. Mzoli's Ngcawuzele has helped develop tourism in the township of Gugulethu. Originally a butcher's shop, Mzoli's opened a restaurant in the garage, which soon became "the place to be". It is one of the few places where families and young people of all ethnic and social backgrounds mingle. People come here for the meat grilled on traditional braai and for the sound: kwaito, house, township music, real music, mixed by local DJs. You can buy your consos right next door. At night, we go to the nightclub!

An assiette composée and a glass of wine... what more could you ask for in such a beautiful setting? This high-altitude stopover outside town, in the midst of pinot noir, is the fruit of a tasty complicity between winemaker Achim von Arnim. Take the opportunity to taste the pierre jourdan, a well-aged gris rosé. The chef offers gourmet tasting menus inspired by seasonal produce, including an all-vegetarian option and top-notch tapas.
