THE KIMBERLEY VINTAGE TRAM

Getting around by streetcar

Kimberley is the only South African town with an operational tramway system, dating back to the diamond rush era. Set up by the Victoria Tramways Company, it transported workers to the Big Hole when the diamond trade was booming. Today, it's mainly used by tourists. The tour lasts around 20 minutes, taking in the mine shaft, the authentic West End bar and the Big Hole. A trip back to the 20th century on the original wooden seats!

With the Cape Town Aerial Metro, you can travel safely during the day to Simon's Town by stopping at the waterfront. To Muizenberg, Kalk Bay and Fish Hoek. Another line passes through Bellville and branches off either to Stellenbosch or to Paarl and Wellington. The stations are central and you can walk to the points of interest or the beach. METROBUS OF JOHANNESBURG

Public transport buses and coaches

The Metrobus of Johannesburg is the city's public transport system. Don't expect the French-style city bus service! Schedules are not always respected and cleanliness often leaves something to be desired, but at least it's really very cheap! Stops in front of Rosebank mall, Cresta or Ghandi square. Be sure to ask the driver for the direction of the bus before taking the road! To avoid, perhaps, if you have an appointment to keep or if you have a plane to catch.
