The Mexican capital's subway is a French achievement. The first line was inaugurated in September 1969, and since then, the network has continued to expand. It currently has 195 stations on 12 metro lines, forming a network of 226 km. Every day, it carries more than 4 million passengers. The metro remains the fastest way to get around, especially during rush hour. However, it is often necessary to take another means of transportation once you get off at a given station.

This regional airline serves Baja California with its small Cessna aircraft, and connects the states of Sonora and Sinaloa. From Guerrero Negro, you can fly to Ensenado, Guaymas and Hermosillo (Sonora), with a few flights per week to these destinations. There are also flights to Isla Cedros, famous for fishing and where the port for loading salt for export is located. Flights are operated from the Guerrero Negro regional airport, 10 kilometers north of the city.

Guaymas, in Sonora, offers a privileged ferry passage to Santa Rosalia. In principle, there are departures from Santa Rosalia several times a week, on Wednesdays and Fridays at 8:30 am and on Sundays at 8 pm (not bad for saving a night's stay). There may be changes depending on the weather. The crossing takes quite a long time: you spend the night or the day on the boat and you arrive in Guaymas 10 hours later. It is possible to make the crossing with a car or a motorcycle, but it costs more ($3,200 and $1,520).

These buses, which only serve La Paz, are located in Calle Leona Vicario and 16 of Septiembre.

The ABC company ensures most of the connections with the cities of the area: Tijuana (1 hour 30 of way) and Mexicali (3 hours 30). Its comfortable buses also serve the south of the peninsula. To avoid waiting on the spot (many locals buy their tickets directly at the ticket office), we recommend that you make your reservation in advance, on the ABC company's website or on a dedicated reservation site. There are few shops on site, so take some provisions with you.

The airport is only about 10 km from the Centro. From the airport, the trip costs about $300 and takes less than 20 minutes. It serves La Paz, Loreto and San José del Cabo in Baja California; the north of the country (Monterrey, Los Mochis, Ciudad Juárez, Zacatecas), the center (Mexico City, Puebla, Morelia), the south (Cancún, Oaxaca) and the Pacific coast (Guadalajara, Puerto Vallarta). The companies Aéromexico, Calafa Airlines, VivaAerobús and Volaris offer these connections.

Offers departures every hour for the United States. Distances: Tijuana is 40 km from San Diego, 217 km from Los Angeles, 775 km from San Francisco and 1 365 km from Denver. Greyhound Station is located on the American side of the border, although buses also leave the Central Camionera of Lázaro Cardenas Avenue.

It can take you to Rosarito (2 hours drive), Ensenada (10 hours), La Paz (11 hours), Tijuana (11 hours). To go south, it is still and always the company Autotransportes Aguila.

Benito Juárez International Airport is the main airport in southeast Mexico. Regular flights from Europe, the United States, Canada, Cuba, Guatemala, Colombia or Brazil, among others, with Air France, Air Europa, United Airlines, American Airlines, Cubana de aviación... Domestic airlines (Interjet, Volaris, Vivaaerobus, Magnicharters, Aeromar and Aeroméxico) serve Mexico City, Mérida, Villahermosa, Acapulco and other national destinations. This is the most convenient way to reach Baja California if you also want to transport your vehicle (it will cost you extra). The ferries leave from Mazatlán and Topolobampo, in Sinaloa.The crossing is at night and you can choose between comfortable, but simple seats or a cabin trip with a bunk bed. Departure days are extremely volatile depending on the season, but are generally on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays. Call before booking to confirm.

Its buses depart from the Mercado Francisco Madero, between Revolucion and Degollado. Destination: Todos Santos, San José del Cabo and Cabo San Lucas.

Zihuatanejo is located on Mexico's Pacific coast. It offers magnificent white sand beaches and turquoise waters, making it a popular destination for tourists. Founded in 2006, the low-cost airline VivaAerobús covers the entire Mexican territory. It offers direct connections between Tijuana (Baja California) and Morelia (Michoacán), Cancún (Quintana Roo) and Chihuahua (Chihuahua State), Monterrey (Nuevo Léón) and Toluca (México), Guadalajara (Jalisco) and Puebla (Puebla State).

VivaAerobús also offers connections to the United States, including the cities of Los Angeles, Las Vegas and New York, mainly from Guadalajara, Monterrey, Cancún and México.

Manuel Crescencio Rejón International Airport is served by several companies (VivaAerobus, Volaris, TAR Aerolíneas and Aeroméxico) which allow to reach many national destinations. The American companies provide international connections. The city centre of Merida is less than 10 km away and is accessible by shuttle bus. The short distance guarantees accessible fares, including by taxi or private vehicle.

The Aguascalientes airport, 24 kilometers south of the city, serves destinations in Mexico and the United States. Flights leave for Mexico City, Monterrey, Puerto Vallarta, Cancún and Tijuana, regularly or seasonally. You will have to fly with one of the following companies: Aeromar, Aeroméxico, Magni, TAR, VivaAerobus or Volaris. There are also some flights to Houston, Chicago and Los Angeles, with Volaris or the American company United Express.

Direct flights to Mexico DF. and Monterrey.

In 2010, the Mexican government implemented a bicycle rental system called Ecobici. Several dozen stations were installed from Polanco to the historic center through all the intermediate settlements such as Paseo Reforma, Roma and Condesa. The service now includes all the settlements along Insurgentes Sur, up to the center of Coyoacán. This is a system that is not only environmentally friendly, but also very attractive for tourists who can now explore the city by bike.

In 2005, the Mexico City government introduced the metrobus, a new transportation system that combines bus and streetcar features. It has seven lines, but only five of them are attractive to travelers. The price of the metrobus ticket is slightly higher than that of the subway, but the ride is more pleasant because you can see the city from the car. Buy your card at the vending machines located at the bus stops of all metro stations. The card is also valid for the subway.

From this small terminal, minibuses leave for Puerto Escondido, taking the most direct and mountainous road. The landscapes are superb and sometimes vertiginous, the whole thing is all curves and the speed doesn't improve things... Expect the minibus to make many stops throughout the day, even if it means taking passengers when there is not really any free seat left. We tighten a little, and that passes!

The airport is 35 minutes from Tuxtla and 1h15 from San Cristóbal de Las Casas. After collecting your luggage, head for the exit where you'll find cabs and colectivos. The journey to the center of Tuxtla takes about 40 min and costs around $50 by colectivo or $250 by cab. To get to San Cristóbal, a cab costs around $1,000, while a colectivo costs around $240 per person. It's best to withdraw cash before you leave.

Here is a local company that offers air taxi services, charters and tourist flights throughout the peninsula (Cabo San Lucas, La Paz, Loreto, Santa Rosalia, Ciudad Constitución, Guerrero Negro). This is very convenient for travelers in a hurry, but also sometimes more economical than the bus! The company also serves several destinations on the Pacific coast (from Puerto Vallarta to Guacaymas in Sonora, passing through Sinaloa), as well as the cities of Tijuana, Chihuahua and Guadalajara.

This is the nicest side of the lake, where the boats are only used by the inhabitants of the islands of Yunuen, Pacanda and Tecuena. Don't insist, we won't give you the price of the inhabitants... The advantage is that you can decide how much time you want to spend on each island (usually 45 minutes to 1 hour to go around the Pacanda) and a little longer if you want to have breakfast or lunch in Yunuen at one of the fish restaurants around (prior reservation required during the week).

This is the latest Chepe train, designed for tourism, which serves only five of the most visited stations: Creel - Divisadero - Bahuichivo - El Fuerte - Los Mochis. The windows are panoramic, to enjoy the landscape, and those of the "terrace" go from the floor to the ceiling. For passengers, there are two classes: "Ejecutivo" and "Turista". It is the ideal means of transport to visit the main attractions of the barrancas, to be combined with the Chepe Regional depending on the secondary destinations you wish to access.

This is where most of the boats depart for Janitzio, which is quiet on weekdays and crowded on weekends, vacations and the Feast of the Dead. The crossing takes about twenty-five minutes. From here, you can also take boats to visit the islands of Yuñuen and La Pacanda, although the pier on the other side of the lake is quieter and allows you to spend less time on the boat. Just 5 minutes away is the San Pedrito pier (calle Las Americas), which also serves Janitzio.

Very practical, this company allows to connect Tapachula to all the capitals of Central America, namely Guatemala (Guatemala, San Salvador (El Salvador), Tegucigalpa (Honduras), Managua (Nicaragua), San José (Costa Rica), Panama (Panama). Note that the tourist city of Antigua in Guatemala is also sometimes served. The bus does not run at night and offers to include accommodation in your ticket. You can buy your tickets directly on the website, where you can check the days and times of departure.

These combis allow to circulate all around the Reserva de la Biósfera Montes Azules to reach Palenque by taking the carretera Fronteriza which skirts Guatemala, stopping en route to visit the Lagos de Montebello (1h30, $100), the waterfalls of Las Nubes, Las Guacamayas (direction Zamora Pico de Oro, 5-6h, $190) and Lacanja (Selva lacandona, 7h, $285). A nice alternative route in perspective. Departures start around 2:30 am.
