Listín Diario is one of the first and most important newspapers in the Dominican Republic (probably the most widely read in the country), but also the only one left of those founded in the 19th century. Born in 1889, Listín long maintained its neutrality, then showed its support for Cuban independence, was critical of the American occupation of the Dominican Republic, and opposed the Trujillo dictatorship. Today, it has the largest circulation and a pro-government bias.
