You can eat here, for reasonable prices, quality French dishes (rabbit stew with wine, raclette, fondue, sauerkraut), and above all, sweet and savoury crepes whose ingredients you choose yourself. On the menu, there are also some regional specialities such as cuy oralpaca bourguignon. Patrick, a Frenchman living in Huaraz since 1986, will treat you, and will also make you taste his own jams (granola, pisco, mustard...). Here we come to dine and chat. The French way. Here you are promised a "Nuna Raymi" literally a "Party of the Soul" and the place does not lack it. The room is large, bright, with welcome little plants and many nods to local culture such as the emoliente cart. In the plates, a fresh cuisine, based on local and creative products. This former bodega of the excellent Peruvian pisco brand is very popular with the locals, who enjoy pisco (as it should be) and other cheap beers. Wooden tables, checkered tablecloths, Creole dishes. The menu is cheap but with a lot of tripe and other specialties. The menu includes soups, pasta dishes, meats and specialties such as tacu-tacu (dried beans and rice in sauce), the Friday arroz con pato or the Friday-Saturday lasagna. In the evening, sandwiches, picos and hot dishes. Picturesque atmosphere, not to be missed!

A nice surprise on the2nd floor of a building along the river. Here they offer a lunch menu for small budgets (be careful, you have to ask). Foodies will prefer the à la carte dishes: soups, burritos and more family-style dishes such as baked duck, lomo saltado served in the pan or saqra mixto (meat cooked on stone). Dishes served on wooden boards are accompanied by delicate salads strewn with flowers and fried native potatoes. The restaurant doesn't look like much, but the food is very tasty.

Located just in front of the magnificent Casa de la Literatura, this institution, which has more than a century of history, has lost none of its old-fashioned charm (high ceilings, small round wrought iron tables, a bar as long as the white apron of the waiters). You can find there all the classics of the Peruvian gastronomy as well as sandwiches. Try the butifarra (traditional ham and onion sandwich) or the tamal (made with corn) with its small coffee with milk to start the day well. Or the pisco sour to end the day.

A good and beautiful idea close to the condor viewpoint. The staff of the Kuntur Wasi Hotel have opened a small farm here with chickens, rabbits, sheep and all around fields of quinoa, kiwicha and some fruits and vegetables. The stone building with bay window offers a panoramic view and authentic food. Horse and/or pony rides. The place was inaugurated in 2015 and is popular with groups, but can be booked individually. 8 rooms for rent, ask around as it is slowly being taken over, basic but in a very privileged place.

As for the cuisine, there is something for everyone. Peruvian flavours with a trucha ceviche, trout in sauce, vegetarian chaufa or lamb chops. But the lasagne and gnocchi with 4 cheeses are not to be outdone. Good cocktails and excellent strawberry-muña lemonade for example. Mullu is an art gallery and craft shop on the ground floor selling t-shirts and paintings, and a rather simple café/resto upstairs with a few small tables and colourful walls. You can try the tajine de cordero or the Thai curry and other exotic flavours. Nice little terrace and balcony overlooking the Plaza. It's slow, but as usual. Sometimes music and events in the evening which is a real plus in this very quiet village. To test, the establishment had just been taken again and it has the merit to change a little the menu.

In this neighbouring district of Miraflores (on the other side of the expressway) this address where you are neck and neck offers fish dishes by the kilo and prepared just now, traditional Creole dishes to share and turn off the wifi to talk to your neighbour. Gaston Acurio recommends it. Be careful though, even if the atmosphere is popular, the prices are high, but the result is to lick your lips. Try to get there early instead.
