Surfing Madagascar

Tsilavo has been surfing here since 1998, he is one of the pioneers of the practice, everyone knows him. He comes to pick you up at the hotel to take you to the spot which works according to the swell of the day. For beginners and advanced, the course lasts 1h30 to 2h, the equipment is in good condition. His club also organizes gun-harpoon hunting trips in the fishy corners of Fort Dauphin, on the menu carangues, parrot fish, octopus, lobsters and sea urchins.

This unpretentious school was created by Marcel, today he is assisted by his two sons Joe and Antonio, two young surfers. The natural kindness of this family, their love for surfing and the frank laughter remind us of the essence of this activity, made of respect and fraternity. In terms of prices, it's hard to beat that. On Saturdays from 2 to 4 pm, there is a surf school with the local children, which is great to see. They have also formed a cabaret music group, the Voazavo Lenda, on the beach, where barbecues are organized.

Recommended by even the greatest surfers, such as Jérémy Flores, this serious surf club also offers packages north of Tuléar and south of the Tropic. That said, there's no need to go too far: the island of Nosy Ve, just opposite, is bordered by the famous Flamme Balls wave to the north, and by Jelly Baby to the south. The resort has 18 lagoon-side bungalows facing Nosy Ve island (from €89 for two people). Other activities include whale safaris in season and visits to Tsimanampetsotsa National Park.

Blair Rogers (whom everyone affectionately nicknames Tony Blair) organizes surf trips as we like, the old-fashioned way on almost exclusive spots. The best season to surf on this coast is from March to October (southern winter), ideal for experienced surfers. In summer, the swell is less, but better oriented and the water warmer.
