Getting around by bus and coach Egypt

This is the most important station in the Middle of Egypt. Buses every hour for Minyeh and Assiout and some for Le (for this last destination, prefer departure from Midan Guiza; it's gone, it goes in minibus, but it's better).

Cairo Getaway (formerly Turgoman) is Cairo's main bus station. From there one leaves for Alexandria and the Mediterranean coast, the Suez Canal region, the Sinai, the deserts and the Nile valley. It is wise to buy your ticket one or two days in advance and have the time and place of departure confirmed. Prices vary somewhat depending on the airline you choose, but on average you should expect to pay around 20 Egyptian pounds for a 100 km trip.

From Alexander, the West Delta bus company serves many cities in the north of the country and Cairo. The bus company also has a ticket counter at the bus station, so don't panic if you pick up your tickets at the last minute. From the bus station, the company serves various destinations. Another office is located in Sidi Gaber, Midan Semouha. The company's buses also leave from the bus station of El Mohaf el-Gedid, 15 minutes from Saad Zaghlol (no traffic / 1 hour with traffic).

Microbuses, the easiest way to get around the region, leave from the bus station. This is an economical option for visiting the temples of Kom-Ombo and Edfu on the way to Luxor. Bus journeys to the Red Sea from Aswan are not recommended. There are around ten buses a day to Hurghada, with four different companies each offering two to three buses a day. Aswan is best reached by microbus or train. For the Luxor/Hurghada and Safaga journey, allow 4/5 hours. Luxor/Cairo: 8-10 hrs. Luxor/Marsa Alam (with a stopover): approx. 6 hrs. There are buses to Sharm el-Sheikh and Dahab, but they take a long time as there are many checkpoints due to the unrest in Sinai, so it's better to take a domestic flight than a bus.

You can book your ticket via the Internet, the prices differ according to the category of bus.
