AIR COMPANY TUSHETI

Airline and services
4/5
1 review

This company works for NGOs and connects Tbilisi to Touchetia. There is no regular line, but they can be contacted to try to find a seat on one of their flights. As the roads in Touchetia are considered among the most dangerous in the world and inaccessible in winter, a helicopter flight offers spectacular scenery. The Omalo airfield is well laid out and flights are also available for the inhabitants of the remote valleys. A kind of air "taxi".

TURKISH AIRLINES

Airline and services

Turkish Airlines offers competitively priced flights via Istanbul. The only snag is that the flights arrive between 3 and 4 am in Tbilisi.

As this airline is not the only one to offer very cheap flights arriving in the middle of the night, the airport, open 24 hours a day, is as lively at night as in the middle of the day, or almost! Turkish Airlines serves a very large number of destinations, offering a good service, better than in some competing airlines. The only problem is that flights are sometimes delayed.

The port of Batumi serves Sochi in Russia (where the 2014 Winter Olympics were held), Ilitcheyevsk in Ukraine, Trabzon in Turkey and Burgas in Bulgaria. The terminal is just past Portis Chesakhevi on Goguebashvili (where all the flags are displayed). A stroll along the quays is quite pleasant, as is the observation of the different boats.

On the cargo port side, a project was launched in 2019 to enlarge the port and allow it to store up to 60,000 tons of mineral fertilizers transiting between Asia and Europe.

GIG TAXI

Taxi and VTC

The "official" company of the airport: they are all parked at the drop-off. Always remember to agree with the driver on the price of the trip. Taxis do not accept credit cards, so change a small amount before leaving (the exchange offices at the airport generally offer a rate that is always less interesting than in the city centre). If you arrive at the airport around 6pm, you will probably be caught in traffic jams, it is rush hour in Tbilisi, so the journey time will be much longer.

TÉLÉPHÉRIQUE

Funiculars and cable cars

An absolutely vertiginous cable car takes you over 100 metres above the valley to reach Tago, the village on the opposite side of the valley. This village is exclusively made of traditional wooden houses, and also has a wooden mosque. Although the Soviet cable car may seem unsafe, it works well and you will be shuttling back and forth with the villagers and the actuator for opening and closing the doors. It's a guaranteed spectacle. You take the cable car right next to the marchrutka stop on the main square.
