Rainforest Alliance - or Alliance for Tropical Forests - is a non-profit association created in 1987, aimed at protecting ecosystems, peoples and wildlife from tropical forest. The headquarters is based in New York. The association conducts actions around the world whose primary purpose is to change practices in the area of land use. This NGO works with a few community projects as part of its sustainable tourism program by helping businesses in their marketing, bringing new customers and supporting local ecosystems and communities. Participants in this program are following training to improve the performance of their activities, maintain good relationships with local communities and minimize negative impacts on the environment. During these trainings, companies are also advised to obtain a sustainable tourism certification after undergoing an evaluation by local and Rainforest Alliance partners.
