Read moreThird in number of pontoonplaces in the rank of marinas of the Atlantic façade with its two ports, that of Château and that of Moulin Blanc, Brest now has more than 2,200 places for visitors and boats of any size. These two ports are run by Brest'Aim, the mixed economy company of the city and BMO. Equipped with floating pontoons and facilities for boaters, port du Château is also fitted with a full equipment for waste-water treatment but also for the draining and motor oils. This is why with its ideal location (near the bottleneck) and its large linear pontoons from 300 to 400 metres long, port du Château reconciles the city with the sea. A harbour office, named Espace Bernard Giraudeau, was operating in 2012. This marina is the theatre of the maritime activities of the urban area, like the Tonnerres de Brest festivals. Many other events punctuate the place, including the departures and arrivals of major transatlantic races. Along the marina, you will find bars and restaurants and you can walk on the prints, registered in the bronze, in the hands of great navigators. Port du Moulin Blanc, bordering Oceanapolis, is the historical port of the city. Many pontoons and few bar-restaurants, like Le Tour du Monde of Olivier de Kersauzon, make the place successful.

Nowadays, activity is reduced, but it will soon be redeveloped to enable yachtsmen to moor in this authentic, peaceful setting. The oyster huts, built by the fishermen themselves, add a touch of nostalgia to the charm of this place. They are due to be refurbished. A project for a fishing lake with a small hamlet of light housing is also planned, creating an exceptional leisure haven.

Read moreTowards the end of the 18th century, the cultivation of vines encouraged the expansion of this small port, whose activities were divided between river transport and fishing. Today, it's the pleasure boaters who come to make a stopover and take advantage of the berths (36, including 2 for visitors) available in the port. Good to know: every year in July, the municipality organizes the Goulée port festival, which includes a pétanque competition, a night market, a funfair and the throwing of a wreath into the sea in memory of lost sailors.

It is from Port-Olonna that the boats set off for the Vendée Globe race.

It was in 1983 that the project for a port reinforced by dikes was decided. The work was completed in 2000. Today, the port of Morin is essentially a marina, although there are still some professional fishermen. Its total capacity is 935 seats. With 850 boats, this port lives at the rhythm of the tides, since it fails at times of high low water.

Among the materials transiting through Laurède were mainly wines from Chalosse and Béarn, which were transported to Bayonne on gabares, traditional flat-bottomed boats. One of the port's warehouses, Larribère, still exists today. Port activity gradually declined before ceasing in the 19th century.
