Day 2: Descent of the Maroni River in a motorized pirogue
Steps: Maripasoula
Boarding for Maripasoula (1-hour flight), flight over the Amazon rainforest. Arrival in Maripasoula and meeting with a local guide. Board a pirogue for the start of your adventure on the Maroni. This expedition will take you up the river for 4 days, discovering the people who live along its banks. Overnight in a hammock.
Day 3: Continuing the adventure on the Maroni
After a very local breakfast, you will sail on the Maroni River and make stops in typical villages along both banks of the river. The opportunity to share with the inhabitants of this region (Amerindians, Bushinengués). Night in hammock.
Day 4: After the descent, up the Maroni River
Navigation continues across the river. Frequent stops to meet the locals who have always lived on the banks of the Maroni. This immersion is total, and the Amerindians are particularly welcoming, it will be possible to observe their daily life or share a meal. Overnight in a hammock.
Day 5: On the Maroni
Steps: Saint-Laurent-Du-Maroni
After a few kilometers up the river, we arrive in Saint-Laurent-du-Maroni, the local capital. Transfer to your hotel and visit the town.
Day 6: Guiana Space Center
Steps: Kourou
Tour of the Guiana Space Center by tourist bus (duration: 3 hours). Chosen in 1964 from 13 other sites for its unique location, it is now Europe's "spaceport". An integral part of the Guianese environment after more than forty years, the C.S.G. is an important stage in the discovery of the region. During your visit, you'll enter the exciting world of high technology. Led by experienced guides, you'll take your place in the control center for a presentation, followed by a two-hour tour of the various facilities, subject to operational constraints. At the end of the tour, you'll discover the Space Museum.
Day 7: Farniente on the Ile du Salut
Steps: Île Royale, Kourou, Île Saint-Joseph, Île Du Diable
After breakfast, departure to the Kourou landing stage by rental car or private transfer. Board a catamaran (serving Île Royale and Île Saint-Joseph) and sail to the Îles du Salut (approx. 1h30 sailing time). Located 15 km off the coast of Kourou,Île Royale,Île Saint-Joseph andÎle du Diable form the archipelago of the îles du Salut, one of the most important penal colonies. On Île Royale, many of the buildings erected by the prison administration bear witness to a prison world that closed in 1946. The hospital is an excellent example of late 19th-century architecture, as are the death row quarters, thechurch, the rectory, the madhouse and the lighthouse. Some of the buildings, in particular the warden's quarters, have been restored to their original condition and are now used as rooms for those planning a stay on the island. The former keeper's mess houses the kitchens and restaurant, where you can enjoy lunch with a beautiful view of Devil's Island.
Day 8: Before your return flight
Steps: Cayenne
Free morning for final shopping and a visit to the Cayenne market.
