Day 1: Landing in San Pedro Sula

Steps: Tegucigalpa, Copán Ruinas, San Pedro Sula

San Pedro Sula. The economic capital is not the most charming of cities. However, it is closer to tourist places (the ruins of Copan, the Caribbean, Yojoa Lake...) than the political capital, Tegucigalpa. There is also much more choice of airlines and international connections from San Pedro Sula airport. But barely arrived, no dead time, go to Copán Ruinas.

Day 2: On the tracks of the Mayan

Steps: Tela

Copán Ruinas. Near the village is the largest Maya archeological site in Honduras (and certainly one of the most remarkable in Central America). Impressive and magical, these ruins classified as UNESCO's World Heritage Site will give you a full look. Choose the services of a local guide to truly immerse yourself in the rich past of these enchanting places.

Day 3: Direction the Atlantic Coast

Steps: Tela, San Pedro Sula

Tela. Take a bus for Tela on the Atlantic coast (the bus will necessarily return by San Pedro Sula). Relax for the evening. Go stroll along the beach on the Malecon. If you have time, ask to visit and cook in a village in the Garifuna culture (outcome of the melting between escaped African slaves and indigenous people).

Day 4: Wild beaches and mangroves

Steps: Tela

Tela. If the effects of time lag are still persistent, choose a second day of rest: on one of the beautiful beaches around Tela. Nature lovers can opt for a boat trip in the morning in the middle of the mangroves of the Punta Sal nature reserve, and/or for a walk in the botanical garden of Lancetilla.

Day 5: 100% nature: hiking or rafting?

Steps: Tela, La Ceiba, Río Cangrejal, Parque Nacional Pico Bonito

The Ceiba. At 2 h bus from Tela, continue east to La Ceiba. Visit Pico Bonito National Park to make a beautiful hike in nature: Bird sightings (including toucans), monkeys, etc. For adventurers, let yourself be tempted by rafting on the river bordering the park: The Río Cangrejal. We suggest you stay in one of the lodges on the river (rather than in La Ceiba).

Day 6: Caribbean ambience

Steps: La Ceiba, Isla De Útila

Islas de la Bahia. From La Ceiba, take a ferry to one of the Bay Islands. The scuba diving is really cheap and the sites are worth a look: we must take advantage of this! For backpack travelers to the small budget and looking for a more festive atmosphere, choose Utila. For couples or families looking for a calmer atmosphere, we suggest Roatán.

Day 7: Relaxation and diving

Islas de la Bahia. Roatan, Utila, who won your heart? Enjoy the relaxed atmosphere, beautiful seabed and paradise beaches on your island.

Day 8: Relaxation and diving, next

Steps: Cayos Cochinos

Islas de la Bahia. Continue on Utila or Roatan, or take a trip on the small islands of Cayos Cochinos. It is possible to experience a community tourism experience there.

Day 9: Return to San Pedro Sula

Steps: La Ceiba, San Pedro Sula

The Ceiba. Let time pass quickly! The return may be a little brutal... Take a ferry to La Ceiba, then go on by bus to San Pedro Sula where your return flight awaits you.
