Day 1: Culture in all its forms
Steps: Lille, Villeneuve-D'Ascq, Roubaix
Enjoy Lille and its many wonders on foot. After a coffee on Lille's Grand-Place, head to Vieux-Lille to admire its many typical facades, the Cathedral de la Treille and the many shopping streets. Then head for the train station and the Tri Postal, once used to sort mail. Today, it's a popular exhibition venue for the people of Lille, appreciated for its dynamic, modern cultural program. There's always something to see at Le Tripo! For the afternoon, head for La Piscine museum, a restored former swimming pool, and its sensory trail. Also worth a visit: the LAM and La Condition Publique museums. By following the "fil bleu" or "fil de brique" with the Roubaix app, you can learn more about the city's history and admire numerous works of street art.
Day 2: Between nature and street art
Head for Parc Jean-Baptiste Lebas and Gare Saint-Sauveur, a former railway station that has been restored, with a host of free exhibitions and shared gardens... After your visit, take a break at the on-site Bistrot Saint-Sauveur, a particularly pleasant place for lunch. Then head for the Moulins and Wazemmes districts, following Lille's street art circuit. Finish the day in the countryside, with a visit to the Citadelle Vauban and its park, much appreciated by walkers, and why not its zoo?
