BAHARI MARITIME MUSEUM
Read moreLocated in a former Dutch warehouse. The oldest part of 1652. If the restoration of the building has been successful, however, the objects (maps, photos, Batavia models, instruments of all kinds) are not all well presented, in a mess of all kinds, without explanation and in a somewhat embarrassing light sometimes. Right in front of the museum, a tower of custody dating back to 1839, once controlled the aisles and the ships in the port. You can get there to have an overview of the corner (and from the port to the bugis in the distance).

Read moreAs you walk along this nauseating canal, you come across an old Dutch drawbridge, such as you'll find all over the Netherlands. The beautiful Kota station, in the same district, was built in 1929 by the Art Deco architect F.J.L. Ghijsels. A few old Dutch houses remain on the quays along the Kali Besar canal, the city's oldest (17th century). Most of the buildings have fallen into disrepair, but the Toko Merah (Red Store) has been beautifully restored. It was one of the residences of Governor General Van Imhoff (1705-1750).

Far from being as impressive as the three lakes of Kelimutu, on Flores Island, this is the occasion of a nice promenade. The lake changes color according to the position of the sun: yellow with green blue, depending on the depth of the lake.
