Roman Catholic cathedral, seat of the Archbishop of Jakarta, with a museum tracing the history of Catholicism in Indonesia.

Located next to the Istiqlal Mosque, Jakarta Cathedral, also known as Gereja Katedral, is a major Roman Catholic cathedral and the seat of the Roman Catholic Archbishop of Jakarta. Rebuilt between 1891 and 1901, it is characterized by its neo-Gothic architectural style and spires rising to a height of 60 meters. The main entrance is adorned with a Latin inscription meaning "All generations will call me blessed". The upper floor houses a museum that tells the story of Catholicism in Indonesia.

Cette jolie cathédrale surprend à Jakarta.
Elle se trouve juste en face de la gigantesque mosquée, dans un quartier ancien plutôt calme.
Visite possible en dehors des heures des offices.

Dans cette cathédrale on sent l'influence des colonies Européennes car il n'y a absolument rien d'asiatique dans cet édifice. Mais cela reste tout de même intéressant à voir.
