Typical of the Arab architecture of the late th century, Sheik's house Saeed al-Maktoum is a refined example of Islamic art. Ceilings in beams and sheets of palm trees, doorways, fenêtres and green delicately sculpted characterize this two-storey building. On the ground floor, the majilis (always at the entrance, to receive guests without compromising the privacy of women in the house), the lounges as well as the kitchens and their dependencies all give on the inner courtyard. They are protected from heat by thick walls and direct light by peripheral verandas. On the first floor there are several rooms and balconies that offer spectacular views of the Creek and the alignment of the city buildings. The facade leaves an elegant wind tower, a primitive but ingenious aeration system.

The house was both the seat of the local government and the private residence of sheik Saeed al-Maktoum, baron Rashid bin Saeed bin-Maktoum (considered the architect of modern Dubai) and grandfather of Dubai Governor Sheik Maktoum bin Rashid al-Maktoum, who died in January 2006. The restoration work of the house began in 1986 and now contains an impressive collection of photographs, lithographs and objects that are a valuable source of information about the recent development of the emirate and the city.
