This charming new guesthouse is located in the part of the old town where the restoration of the ramparts has already been completed. The 18 comfortable rooms, all with air-conditioning and private bathroom, are arranged around an inner courtyard for breakfast, and a lovely old-fashioned pool for a refreshing dip. Privacy is limited, as the rampart walkway plunges directly into the pool, hence the interest of the indoor pool. A little extra: room 209 has its own whirlpool bath.

From what was a hamlet of dry-stone houses in the mineral immensity of Jebel Akhdar, the Omani Sama group - known for its ecolodges and small camps integrated into their environment - has designed a comfortable refuge for hikers and mountain lovers. only 3 rooms, traditional in style but comfortable (with private bathroom), and a small restaurant where you can satisfy your hunger after walking the famous Balcony Walk which starts right next door.

In the modern part of the village of Al Hamra, Ahmed and his family welcome guests on the first floor of their own house, where they have set up 3 bedrooms - 2 with two single beds and a family room for 4. The simplicity of the setting doesn't detract from the modern comforts: free wifi, air conditioning, private bathroom and mini-fridge in every room. This is the Oman of today, not an old-fashioned guesthouse. In the end, we'll remember Ahmed's kindness and the convenient location rather than the neon lights above the bed! This hotel opened in 2023 and offers 15 keys. Without any particular charm, its main asset is that it is located in the heart of the old town and offers an elevator and all modern comforts. This is an important detail for those who can't access the traditional houses but still want to stay in the old town. The rooms, from standard to family, are all air-conditioned and, for breakfast, a choice is given between an Omani and a continental version. In short, it's an easy, well-placed address!

In the heart of the ruins of the old village of Al Hamra, here's a lovely address. This old family home, built of clay some 300 years ago, has been remarkably restored and since 2022 has offered a handful of double or family rooms, all air-conditioned and decorated in a sober but well-appointed style. Some rooms share a bathroom, while others have a private one - please enquire when booking. A detail that's rare enough to be worth mentioning: breakfast is very copious, with fruit, cheese and even pastries!

Set on the plateau, not on the canyon's edge like the others, this dynamic new hotel is the only one to offer an Adventure Park worthy of the name. Couples (quiet wing) and families are welcome, with a choice of spacious, functional and modern rooms, studios with kitchenette or 2-3 bedroom apartment-suites. The resort is all about space and activities, with a huge swimming pool, 2 restaurants and a bar, and a wide range of rejuvenating, cultural and sporting experiences. There's also a Thai-inspired spa.

Impossible to miss this new guesthouse camped, like a citadel, at the top of a rocky outcrop leading the guard at the entrance to the old village. One immediately dreams of reaching the panoramic restaurant which offers the expected view of the oasis and the hamlet. Inside, however, the tiling breaks the charm. Although the rooms for 2 to 5 people are comfortable with private or shared bathrooms, they do not distil the local and pretty old-fashioned atmosphere of the other establishments. Choose them as a last resort or just drop in for a coffee.

This pretty detached house, located on the edge of the old village and palm grove, is an exception among rental properties. Traditional house rentals are rare. Thanks to Mohammed, the adorable owner, this one has benefited from meticulous renovation and charming decoration. It offers a bedroom large enough to accommodate 4 people, an outdoor kitchen, 2 bathrooms, several terraces... The superb garden, with its many species of flowers, features a freshwater swimming pool fed by a falaj. A real treat!

In the middle of a protected mountain plateau, a very nice camp composed of two types of units: 10 double tents with real beds and smoking/heating, and 12 rooms in small bungalows. Each unit has a small en-suite bathroom. A cosy restaurant with a pleasant terrace welcomes the residents, as well as a large Arabic tent with carpets and cushions for real moments of conviviality. 

Recent, nickel, easy access on the main road between Nizwa and Bahla, this establishment offers the functionality of accommodation in one- to three-bedroom villas with living room, equipped kitchen, terrace, barbecue, garden and private swimming pool. Of course, the decor is local, and therefore tiled, with synthetic lawns outside. But you'll appreciate the space, superior to that of a hotel room, and the luxury of having your own pool. A family of local potters has just restored this ancient residence in old Nizwa and opened it to travelers. The attention to detail, decoration and comfort is immediately apparent. Everything has been well thought out: the pretty air-conditioned rooms with private bathrooms (one with a Jacuzzi bathtub), the rooftop terrace, the large shady courtyard-garden where breakfast is served in the morning, and which, come evening, is beautifully lit by luminous lights - during the day the place will no doubt become a café. A promising address!

Close to the W4 and W6 hiking trails, on a vast plateau with plunging views over a canyon and the mountains, this is the only ecolodge in Jebel Shams and the most comfortable in the area. In harmony with the mineral immensity of the site, accommodation is divided between dry-stone bungalows, large chalets with views, luxury tents... each with private bathroom and air conditioning and/or heating. On-site: restaurant, library, playground and activity center (mountain biking, trekking, yoga...).

The hotel, built on the roadside, can be seen from afar. Although not so old, it is old-fashioned in appearance, and is built away from the villages of the Saiq plateau. It offers a panoramic view of Jebel Akhdar through its many bay windows. The 26 decent rooms are equipped with TV, air-conditioning, minibar and even a radiator, as the nights here are rather chilly, even cold in the middle of winter.
