The opening hours of the shops are quite similar to those in France, unlike the Spanish neighbor. Most are open from 9am to 1pm and from 3pm to 7pm. Many stores designed for foreign visitors are open on Sundays. Shopping centers open very late, most supermarkets stay open until 11pm and open on Sundays. Very convenient!
Since 2016, official sales periods no longer exist in Portugal, giving merchants the choice to discount or not. So you can find discounts all year round. But many retailers have decided to keep sale periods in winter (between Christmas and mid-February) and in summer (between mid-June and mid-September).
Be careful, haggling is not common practice in Portugal, you could be badly received if you try to negotiate..
