5SENTIDOS COMPORTA

Mediterranean cuisine restaurant €€
4.4/5
12 reviews

Located in the small town of Carvalhal not far from the beach of the same name, the reputation of this address is well known. 5 Sens moved here in 2018 and offers the same concept it offered in Cascais. Skate with clams, baked octopus, fish of the day... but also some good seasonal salads, fish risottos or meat dishes. Dishes to be tasted in a jovial and relaxed atmosphere in the heart of a small building in the colors of the sea. The call to the "5 senses", as its name indicates, leaves a memorable souvenir.

VARANDA DO ALENTEJO

World cuisine restaurant
4.4/5
8 reviews

Here, the view is the restaurant's strong point, over and above the food. Start by reserving a table by the window, then order gazpacho or sarapatel, a pork liver and offal stew, one of the house specialties. In addition to the menus, there's a wide choice of grilled meats and fish on the menu. The setting is chic and intimate, the wine list is varied and the service is friendly. You can even spend the night in one of the rooms in the adjacent hotel.

RESTAURANTE ALECRIM

Fusion restaurant and international cuisine €€
4/5
1 review

This restaurant is aptly named: it means "rosemary" in French, a symbol of good faith and kindness. The cuisine is based on the same philosophy with unexpected products and generous recipes from the Estremoz region. You will have the choice of sitting outside on the terrace under pretty white umbrellas, or inside at soberly decorated tables. A tasting experience to discover, accompanied by excellent award-winning wines from the Alentejo. Not to mention the smiling and attentive welcome.

In a beautiful Alentejano mountain in the Nossa Senhora do Carmo neighborhood, with a typical mill of the region, here is a rustic and welcoming address. You can eat in a comfortable room, with a fireplace for the winter evenings, tomato soup, dogfish with clams or migas with pork. Excellent sheep cheese. The red wine in a jug from the nearby Cartuxa cellar is of very good quality. The white wine, served chilled on a summer's day, gives a little taste of paradise. One of the best restaurants in Évora, according to the locals.

O SACAS

1 review

Although the building doesn't look like much, the O Sacas restaurant is an excellent regional eatery serving generous seafood dishes. The view of the ocean is exceptional, especially at sunset, as the restaurant is located on the edge of a cliff. Some Lisboans on their way to the Algarve make the detour to have lunch here. Specialties include feijoada de búzios (whelk cassoulet) and dishes of chocos (small cuttlefish). A delicious moment in a relaxed atmosphere.

DOM JOAQUIM

Portuguese restaurant €€

Located at the bottom of the city, Dom Joaquim restaurant has already received several awards for its delicate and very well executed traditional Alentejano cuisine, including one from Michelin in 2017. The tables, well laid out and mainly occupied by regulars, are framed by light marble walls and the young service team is taking care of itself. On the menu, regional gastronomic dishes such as Arroz de Lebre, Borrego assado or Bacalhau. The tourist menu can be a pretty good choice. Good selection of wines.

CAFE O ALENTEJANO

World cuisine restaurant
5/5
1 review

Don't confuse the cafeteria on the first floor, where you can enjoy a quick coffee with a Serpa queijada, with the restaurant on the second floor. With a very regional folk theme, objects and photos adorn the walls and every nook and cranny. The menu is clear: local cuisine is the order of the day: dogfish soup, cod in a variety of forms, salmon estufado with tomato sauce, tasty old-fashioned duck rice and doces conventuais. Don't forget to try the famous açorda as a starter, which is enhanced by the olive oil produced by the owner - a wise tip!

O ALENTEJANO

World cuisine restaurant €€
5/5
1 review

It is difficult to find a more central place than this restaurant, where many typical Alentejo dishes are served: carne de porco com amêijoas (pork with clams), cozido grão á alentejano (grain stew), arroz de tamboril (monkfish rice), galinha de cabidela (simmered chicken). The sopa de cação is well known and has been for a long time in Alentejo, because this fish, a small shark, was one of the few that could withstand the transport and it was not expensive... If you don't have a big appetite, don't hesitate to ask for a portion for two, that should be enough..

A genuine old-fashioned tasca, whose walls are covered with large terracotta wine jars from which the house wine is drawn. Garlic and onion braids hang from the ceiling. Grilled meats, excellent fish and house specialties(filhoses com mel, migas alentejanas) are served on long communal tables. Tasty and hearty! All of which deserves to be accompanied by a good glass of Alentejo wine. For dessert, we recommend you try the tarte de requeijão. Attentive service.

RESTAURANTE IMPERIAL

Modest facilities, small space and those little white embossed paper placemats on the tables. This establishment doesn't look like much but it is run by a lovely couple who will make you feel at home. Here no manners, they serve traditional home-made food: fish soup, rice with duck (arroz de pato), black pork, spaghetti with Bolognese sauce... Simple but well-made and tasty food, and always the soup of the day. A small canteen as we would like to find everywhere on the corner. Highly recommended!

Feel free to take meia doses, i.e. half-portions, or to share the meal. Unless you have a strong appetite.... It will also allow you to taste several dishes in one meal, knowing that everything is appealing. Typically decorated room. Reservations are strongly recommended, especially in high season.

O Cruzamento is a no-fuss address where you can enjoy the rustic dishes of Alentejano cuisine at reasonable prices. Don Manuel, the owner, states on his website that the restaurant's private parking lot can accommodate dozens of buses and hundreds of cars! Rest assured, the dining room is not large, and sometimes you even have to queue. One of the specialties isensopado de borrego, a lamb stew simmered in the regional style, with migas and porco preto. Tip: the half portion is more than enough for one person.
