SHANGA

Gift ideas €€

Shanga Gift and Workshop is a workshop that sells handicrafts for gifts made from recycled materials. The works are made by disabled workers from the poorest areas of the city. This shop offers them the opportunity to reintegrate into social life through their jobs. Beautiful glass objects or beaded creations are sold. In the same complex there is an open-air restaurant. A relaxing place and a real lesson in life. A project of solidarity tourism.

CULTURAL HERITAGE

Gift ideas

A wide selection of Makonde statues (from southern Tanzania), animals of all sizes, jewelry, paintings and fabrics as well as souvenirs of all kinds, including T-shirts, clothing and a whole host of small safari accessories. Expensive, very expensive indeed, but beautifully made. The store has a large stock, which is not on display: if you're still looking for other items, you can access them on request. On the courtyard side, all the items on display are far from guaranteed authenticity.

MAASAI MARKET

Gift ideas

This is Arusha's must-visit market for Maasai handicrafts. The women each have their own little stall, either inside or out front, selling their handmade wares, often the same types of objects but in different colors. An interesting community project with prices far lower than anywhere else for this type of craft. Competition is fierce, and you're bound to be hassled by the vendors. It can be tiring, but that's the game! Try to haggle and get your items from different stalls.
