The Teatro Miguel Santana hosts the Folkloric Ballet of Salvador where the spectator can feel the energy of the Bahian culture. One is close to the stage and the vibrations of the many dancers who alternate five choreographies illustrating with all the emotions the orixás of candomblé, the maculelê and the capoeira. The ballet, created in 1988, is the only company of its kind in Brazil, recognized by both the public and specialized critics!

CORTEJO AFRO

The bloco was born on 2 July 1998. Symbolically, July 2 is the day of the independence of the state of Bahia, whose African heritage the bloco claims. This Afro-Brazilian musical procession makes its percussion ring out loudly in the streets of Pelourinho. African music is mixed with pop, electro and other rhythms. The aesthetics of the sounds of the dances and the costumes have been carefully worked out and improved by the creator of the Cortejo, Alberto Pitta, an artist-plastician immensely known and appreciated in Salvador.

TEATRO CASTRO ALVES

This theater built in 1958 was reopened in 1993 after a restoration. It symbolizes the modernization of Salvador de Bahia in the 1950s and is perhaps one of its most emblematic elements and is worth a visit. Here, Caetano Veloso, Maria Bethânia and Gilberto Gil began their careers in the 1960s. It is home to the Bahia Symphony Orchestra and the Castro Alves Ballet, both of which are renowned for their quality performances. The complex itself is a success. The aesthetics intended by the architect merge with its functionality.

OLODUM

The "bloco" Olodum is undoubtedly the most famous in Bahia, as it was immortalized by its participation in a video clip of Michael Jackson in the heart of Pelourinho. It is an extraordinary male percussion group that performs in many countries. They perform on Tuesdays (once or twice a month, more regular presentations in the summer) in the Pelourinho. If you want to feel the vibrant atmosphere of Salvador, don't miss it. In addition to musical and stage performances, Olodum takes care of and mentors young people from disadvantaged neighborhoods.
