FERME DU VAUMADEUC

Regional grocery cheese and cream shops

Here is a family farm, very close to the port of Dahouët, which exploits the dairy niche to the full. Indeed, it offers cheese and... ice cream! Yes, the Lévêque family, from father to son, has developed this original combination of artisanal products that will delight all gourmets, whether they like salty or sweet foods. On the cheese side, tomme and Val Doré. On the ice cream side: chocolate, vanilla, hazelnut, milk flower and salted butter caramel. A pleasure to spend the summer here! Long live the Breton cows!

The origin of this goat farm goes back to 1976. Today, the GAEC de la ferme de Ma Vallée is a farm organized in sustainable agriculture. It consists of a farm of 280 dairy goats and 100 meat sheep. All the goat's milk production is processed on the farm (which represents about 230,000 litres!) and sold in no less than 60 sales outlets. It is the raw goat's milk that is transformed into farmhouse cheeses according to traditional methods into Bûchettes, Crottins, Pyramides or Lingots.

You can find the farm cheeses made from raw milk on the markets of Erquy, Lamballe, Saint-Cast-l'Isle, in many delicatessens and cheese shops in Brittany and in direct sales at the farm. This conversion of a dairy farm into a cheese factory to process milk is a family adventure. For two generations now, the business has been developing successfully. Taste their emblematic Darley, with uncooked pressed paste and washed rind, matured for 2 months in the cellar. Delicious, just like the rest of the cheeses!

In 2017, starred chef Mathieu Aumont, who works at Aux Pesked restaurant, joined forces with François Charroy, owner of the wine cellar l'Eau Rouge, to create a cream cheese dairy and a delicatessen. Located just next to Eau Rouge, at Le Légué, Marguerite offers a range of good farm cheeses made from raw milk. We recommend the pecorino, the reblochon, the mothais-sur-leaf or the carré de Sologne, a creamy and ashen goat. For local products, try cheeses from the Prairies de la Noé (La Fleur de Gouët or Le P'tit Noé). Also try the magnificent golden butter from Froment du Léon, a cow breed that produces milk rich in beta carotene, or the flavoured butters from Old Burg (coffee, seaweed, mushrooms, etc.). At the bottom of the shop, the delicatessen is full of artisanal products, often organic: teas, fruit juices, jams, olive oil, spreads, artisanal fish preserves... The welcome is very friendly.

Marie-Paule and Jean-François have kept this beautiful artisanal cheese factory alive with passion since 1987. They stopped breeding cows in 2016 to devote themselves entirely to the production of their cheeses. From now on, they get their raw milk from the neighbouring farm to produce their flagship products, Grand Madeuc, Val doré and tomme, as well as crème fraîche, fromage blanc, faisselle and delicious ice creams. And let's not forget the new product: buckwheat tomme, grown on site.
