DOÑANA NATIONAL PARK
Read moreAt the confluence of the Mediterranean and Atlantic regions, between Guadalquivir and the ocean, this former hunting reserve is a paradise of more than 100,000 hectares created in 1969 to protect its biological reserve, its fauna and flora. It consists of beaches, shifting dunes and fossils (the park's dune system is one of the most complete in Europe), marshes and transition areas (La Vera), lagoon complexes with quicksand, as well as stabilized areas (cotos) covered with forests with pine forests that are home to many mammals. Located at the crossroads of the provinces of Huelva, Seville and Cadiz, this national park, in a good state of conservation, is classified as a Biosphere Reserve by UNESCO. Indeed, this protected area, benefiting from a good climate, is of great richness for the European continent, since it is chosen by many bird species that migrate to Europe and Africa. This precious natural and ecological area thus serves as a refuge for more than 300 species of birds and even for some species of animals, unfortunately on the verge of extinction, including the Spanish lynx and the Iberian imperial eagle.
