AIR MAURITIUS

Airline and services
4.7/5
3 reviews

Air Mauritius is the only airline operating between Mauritius and Rodrigues, 2 to 5 times a day depending on the season. The weight of luggage is limited to 15 kg, but the company generally grants a tolerance of a few kilos to each passenger. It is important to book well in advance as the ATR72 has only 66 seats - beware of busy months such as December, January, February, April, July and August. Some hotels have seat quotas, so don't hesitate to go through them for a flight + stay package.

STATION DE TAXIS

Taxi and VTC
4/5
1 review

The station is located at the bus station but you can also call a driver from the four corners of the island. Practical, the application of the tourist office, Discover Rodrigues (to be downloaded absolutely), references the coordinates of most of the cabs: phone numbers and email addresses with immediate booking possible(Book/Réservermaintenant). The classification is proposed by regions, with several choices each time. In addition to transfers, most drivers offer their services for half-day and/or full-day tours of the island.

MAURITIUS SHIPPING CORPORATION

Boat and ferry

Mauritius Pride leaves about four times a month in Port Louis. The date is announced by the press, but you can also call the company's seat. The journey lasts between 28 and 30 hours. Two classes are offered to passengers: class Leisure with seats (return price of around 3 500 Rs or 87 €) and class Excellence with cabins (round round price around 5 500 Rs or 137 €. Attention: nine double cabins only!). These rates include all meals on board during the crossing. It is not always easy to get places: the seats, reserved as a priority in Mauritius, are taken upon the announcement. This must be done in advance. The journey from Mauritius to Rodrigues in general lasts longer than in the opposite direction because of currents, and the sea is sometimes bad.

A cruise ship, MauritiusTrochetia, also operates between the Indian Ocean Islands, including the Reunion, Mauritius and Rodrigues. With a capacity of 112 passengers, it comprises about cabins, reading rooms, restaurants and cinemas. Navigation lasts several days.

ELECTROD

Scooter and motorcycle rental

In Rodrigues, a quiet island where traffic, unlike in Mauritius, is not dense, nothing is better than a scooter to get around. Inland and coastal roads (almost the whole island) open onto wonderful landscapes, to be discovered along the hills. Almost silent, non-polluting, sized for 2, ElectRod's brand new scooters have enough autonomy to see the country and erase the big coasts. The best!

Also electric bikes.

MSC LTD

Boat and ferry

Since 2014, the Mauritius Pride, whose weekly arrival was awaited like the messiah, no longer shuttles and links between Port-Louis and Port-Mathurin, which is not without serious supply problems. The only ship to link the two islands to date is the Mauritius Trochetia, a cargo and cruise ship that travels the islands of the Indian Ocean including Reunion, Mauritius and Rodrigues. With a capacity of 112 passengers, it has about fifty cabins, a reading room, restaurants and a cinema.

GARE ROUTIÈRE

Bus and coach

It is the main bus station of the island, where most of the traffic is concentrated. It is lined with small Creole-style kiosks where street vendors sell snacks and handicrafts. From 5:30am, buses leave to serve the main corners of the island, at relatively regular times but rarely later than 6pm. Practical advice: for hiking, it can be interesting to be dropped off by bus in the heights, for example at Mont Lubin, and then to go back down to the coast by foot
