Read moreThis is the nicest side of the lake, where the boats are only used by the inhabitants of the islands of Yunuen, Pacanda and Tecuena. Don't insist, we won't give you the price of the inhabitants... The advantage is that you can decide how much time you want to spend on each island (usually 45 minutes to 1 hour to go around the Pacanda) and a little longer if you want to have breakfast or lunch in Yunuen at one of the fish restaurants around (prior reservation required during the week).

Read moreThis is where most of the boats depart for Janitzio, which is quiet on weekdays and crowded on weekends, vacations and the Feast of the Dead. The crossing takes about twenty-five minutes. From here, you can also take boats to visit the islands of Yuñuen and La Pacanda, although the pier on the other side of the lake is quieter and allows you to spend less time on the boat. Just 5 minutes away is the San Pedrito pier (calle Las Americas), which also serves Janitzio.

Read moreLa Alameda de León is a charming park located next to the central square (Zócalo) of the city of Oaxaca. Once a potters' market, it was transformed into a garden in 1840 thanks to the idea of Governor Antonio de León and his secretary Benito Juárez. The park was inaugurated in 1843 and named in honor of its founder. In 1885, a statue of General Antonio de León, defender of the homeland, was erected in the park. Recently refurbished, the park has been restored to its original appearance and offers magnificent views of the cathedral and other surrounding buildings.

Read moreThe airport that serves Puerto Escondido is only a 10 minute drive from the center and the beach. It operates regular flights to Mexico City and Guadalajara with Vivaaerobus, Volaris, Aeroméxico and Aeromar. It is also the departure point for Aerotucan's small planes to Oaxaca. It is possible to arrive at the nearby Huatulco airport which is served by more airlines and then take a bus to Puerto Escondido.
