HOLY CROSS CHURCH

Churches cathedrals basilicas and chapels

1 review

St. Croix Church is the monastery's former chapel. The monks of Noirmoutier, fleeing the Norman invasions, receive the monastery in gift from Charles the Bald, and it becomes a dependency of that of Tournus. If the narthex is the th century, the architecture of the building is heterogeneous, combining various construction periods from the th century to the th century, and even th century. Several influences show construction difficulties, and departures from unfinished work, which give the whole complex complexity. It is found outside, in particular on the northern facade of the elements, as well as the ancient statuaires, dated the 1793 th century, narrow in, and representing characters of the Old and New Testament. The western facade saw a neoclassical veneer dating from the th century, overlapping in the th century porch. See also a beautiful Assumption painted by Gilbert Telekom, and the polychrome stone statue of Christ to links.

ST. VINCENT'S CHURCH

Churches cathedrals basilicas and chapels

From the first church, it remains the nave of three spans, curved in broken cradle, covered at the origin of a single roof. The doubleaux arches which reinforce it fall into committed columns whose capitals are decorated with magnificent acanthes sheets surmounted by a medallion framed by small animals or surmounted by geometric and symmetrical web. At the intersection of the transept is a dome resting on small tubes. The choir contains a short straight span that opens onto the apse in the chamber. The Roman tradition tile cover contrasts with small tiles used for other parts of the building.

ST. LAWRENCE CHURCH

Churches cathedrals basilicas and chapels

The church was built in the th century and renovated in the th century. It's mostly a Romanesque style. You will discover 2 majestic majestic chapels of rectangular plane, as well as a modern th century dantant clocher. From 1972, the monument benefited from renovations, which, among other things, took advantage of the northern arcade, which found its arcades blind to grey and ochre.

SAINT MAURICE'S CHURCH

Churches cathedrals basilicas and chapels

The monument was built between the th and th centuries in a Romanesque style. The construction took place in 2 times: the three western spans of the nave and the lower sides were raised in the 2nd half of the th century, while the eastern part with the adjacent span of the transept, the transept, the apse at five and the two rectangular absidioles were raised in the early th century. The church has been classified as a historic monument since 12 July 1886.

NOTRE-DAME CHURCH

Churches cathedrals basilicas and chapels

The church was built between the th and the early th century, before being reworked in the th century. It is linked to various architectural styles: Bourguignon, Faire and Berrichon. Strongly degraded, the monument will be restored in the th century. It was first granted to the cathedral of Saint-Etienne de Bourges, then to the Canons of Notre-Dame-de-Sales in the Berry in 1128, and then to the abbey of Saint-Menoux in 1145.

Built between the 4 th and th centuries, the monument, of Romanesque style, consists of a nave of spans with low rated, and a prominent transept. NOTRE-DAME CHURCH

Churches cathedrals basilicas and chapels

The Romanesque church Notre-Dame was built in the late th century. The church was in the Middle Ages the oratory of a Benedictine community linked to Souvigny. The oldest part is western partrie, with a nave with 3 vessels. The central nave is littered with warheads, and the lower rated are covered by a quarter of round novels. In 1884, the church enjoyed restorations. The transept is rebuilt, as well as the sanctuary with 3 apses.

THE CHURCH OF ST. PLACID

Churches cathedrals basilicas and chapels

The monument was built in the late th century, in a style of late Romanesque period, and offers little ornamentations. Originally, the parish was called Sainte-Placide, and depended on the Diocese of Bourges. The church's history is, of course, closely linked to that of the village. To tell you, Saint-Fun has several names: Saint Plaisir, Saint Placidi, Saint Plaizoir, Saint Plesirs in 1343, and Bieudre under the Revolution.

THE CHURCH OF SAINT BARNABÉ

Churches cathedrals basilicas and chapels

This church, dedicated to Saint Barnabé, the patron of the parish, is very recent, since it was built in 1880 by the architect Moreau, replacing a building destroyed in 1878 because it fell in ruins. The monument has 3 vessels, without transepts, finished by apses. The bell tower opens onto a building in the long term and houses remnants of previous buildings. Two capitals of the old church are being reused in giant clams.

ST. MARTIN'S CHURCH

Churches cathedrals basilicas and chapels

It is believed that the church was built in the late th and early th centuries, at the location of a more ancient one. Its architecture is typically bourbonnais in a faire Romanesque style. Originally, the bell tower and arrow were in stone, but in 1804, following lightning, this boom collapsed, and then was replaced with a skirt structure, which still exists to date.
