A special atmosphere emerges from this covered market created in 1877, perhaps because these are the only real places in Geneva where all these professionals of good fortune coexist in the right mood. It comes to product quality and plenty of choice. Rare products as everyday products, Swiss specialities as a culinary delights come together here. Local cheeses, double cream, dried meat, longeoles, seafood, fresh fish, foie gras, complete bread, fresh pasta, Lebanese pastry or Chinese noodles, all make sense. Prices are high, but the quality of the products is first order. Don't forget to stop at the P'tit bistro in the centre to take a coffee, a glass of white or one of their good dishes.

Read moreIn the seemingly unchanging setting of the Place de Saint-Jean, the faded facades lend an antique tone to this flea market. The flea market is held every first Saturday of the month, from April to November. On site, some fifty dealers unveil their latest finds. Among the items on display are small antiques, crockery, paintings, antique furniture, old fabrics and books. It's always very interesting, as some of these very rural objects are part of Switzerland's heritage.

Read moreThis square was already the site of a market under the Bernese (1536-1798), but it was not until the 19th century that this hall was covered with wood and metal in a fashionable industrial style. It was a gift from Henri Nestlé that made its construction possible, and its plans are the work of a town architect, Henri Chaudet. Its metal structure, reminiscent of that of the Halles de Paris, was made in the foundry where Gustave Eiffel ordered the materials for his famous tower. Today, the place hosts various events every year.
