LA MALTERIE
Read moreHoused, as its name suggests, in a former malt factory, this small restaurant serving French and Belgian cuisine offers carefully prepared dishes in a family atmosphere. Chef François Nicolas' passion for local produce is evident both on the menu (which features only fresh, seasonal produce) and in the adjoining store, which features beer and cheese. Trout escaveche, poultry stuffed with Chimay cheese, sweetbreads braised with Chimay rouge... tasty, well-presented dishes, many of them concocted with beer.
LE GRAND CAFÉ
Read moreNestled on Chimay's Grand-Place, where it's always a pleasure to stroll, the Grand Café is an ideal place to stop for a drink or a bite to eat: burgers, fresh pastas, pizzas and salads (the table's strong point), at reasonable prices and in gargantuan quantities. Escavèche is also on the menu. Not great cuisine here, but a good place to stop after a visit to the château, 150 metres away. What's more, its gigantic summer terrace is undoubtedly the most beautiful in the city center, so you might as well make the most of it!
L'HEURE BLEUE
Read moreThanks to its independent management, the EHN (Eau d'Heure Nautique) clubhouse is now open to all. And we're not going to complain. The place is particularly pleasant, with an outdoor terrace adorned with rustic tables and benches, and an indoor terrace overlooking the small marina and lake. On the menu at any time of day: tagliatas, entrecôtes, meatballs with homemade tomato sauce, filet américain, burgers, pastas and salads, a jumbled menu of dishes that aren't too fancy, but are good, hearty and reasonably priced.
L'AUBERGE DU COIN
Read moreMarianne and Ronny are originally from Charleroi. Lovers of the Eau d'Heure lakes, they were given the opportunity to set up shop at the Auberge du Coin. Their brasserie-style cuisine is complemented by a number of fine suggestions, including a few well-executed dishes featuring local beer. The pleasant atmosphere makes you want to prolong the moment, so you'll want to check out the drinks menu, which features a fine selection of regional mousses and a variety of cocktails. Terrace to take the temperature before a dip in the lakes.
BAGÙ
Read moreSophie and Steven opened Le Bagù in October 2022, and they're already raking in the compliments. The name suggests a Mediterranean influence on the menu (change B to R and you get ragù). The menu is short, in keeping with the seasons. Careful bistronomic cooking, original combinations, a surprising wine list and a cosy atmosphere (admire the wallpaper) put everyone in agreement. The icing on the cake: friendly, attentive service and a large terrace to enjoy the fine weather.
