Lombardy's main railway hub, the station is just a few metro stops from the historic center. It is widely recognized for its history and architecture: the grandiose mass of the central station (207 meters long) was solemnly inaugurated on May 15, 1931. A triumph of Mussolinian neoclassicism, its walls are adorned with reliefs and statues embodying the symbolism of the regime. Restored between 2005 and 2010, it is Italy's second-largest railway station, with an annual passenger flow of around 120 million.

After the Stazione di Milano Centrale, this is one of the most important stations in the city: about 25 million passengers pass through every year. It is used by suburban, regional and national trains, as well as the TGV (high-speed train) connecting Milan and Paris (Gare de Lyon). From this station, you can reach the cities of Bergamo, Cremona, Varese, Turin, Bologna, Florence, Rome, Naples and Salerno by train. The station was opened in 1961 and takes its name from the nearby Garibaldi Gate of the ancient city walls.

Located in the university district of Città Studi, this train station connects Milan with certain destinations in southern Lombardy. A shuttle service connects this station with Linate airport every 20 min.

Porta Nuova station is an important link on the Milan-Venice and Rome-Trento rail lines. It also provides regular services to Padua and Vicenza, as well as to Treviso, with connections to Mestre. The Frecciarossa train connects Verona to Venice in 1 hour 15 minutes, Verona to Bologna in 50 minutes, Vicenza in 25 minutes and Padua in 45 minutes. There are also numerous departures to Brescia and Peschiera del Garda. From the station, you can take ATV lines 11, 12 and 13, among others, to set down your suitcases in Verona.

The Trenord company provides rail connections between Milan's main stations (Rogoredo, Centrale, Cadorna...) and various Lombardy towns within a 30 km radius. The 13 S lines provide easy access to the whole of Lombardy thanks to the passanti, omnibuses that serve Saronno, Lecco, Monza and Pavia.
