Things to see and do Espagne - Costa Del Sol

A recent cultural initiative of the town hall of Málaga (whose building is baroque, in passing, by Guerrero Strachan), the project is new to Spain in the sense that it combines the management of a private enterprise with the ideals and ambitions of the public framework. Based on the German model of the Kunsthaus, characterised by its dynamism, this centre of contemporary art is a large white space that takes place in a former market of wholesalers at the mouth of the Río Río. Temporary and permanent exhibitions dress this place to discover, having bookstore and coffee.

With its historic combination of styles (Gothic, Renaissance...) it is, without doubt, one of the sacred most important monuments of the city. 

Located in the Palais Palace of La, this is the country's most important private collection. On two floors, it comprises more than 5 000 pieces dealing with arts and sciences.

Probably built on the location of the central mosque in Marbella, this church dates back to the th century. Especially its main door, Puerta del Sol, carved in an ochre stone and rococo style, a pure marvel dating back to the second half of the th century.

Friendly monument, built between 1987 and 1994 and dedicated to Cristóbal Colón, it mixes for pleasure various architecture: Romanesque, gothic, mudéjar.

Situated on a cliff facing El Bajoncillo beach, this small palace was built in the th century in neo-mudéjar style, a flourishing architectural style in Spain of the late th century. Renovated and reopened in 2014, it now became an emblematic part of Torremolinos. The building has two floors, the ground floor being the place of accommodation with rooms, office, dining room, kitchen, and above all an interior decoration imitating that of the Alhambra of Granada. On the first floor, it serves as a cross towards the coast. On the outside you will notice its two side towers as well as its main portico. Built at the request of Antonio Navajas, enriched in the culture of sugar cane, this Casa sheltered three generations of the Navajas family before becoming municipal heritage in 2000.

In a th century building, rooms on two floors give witness to numerous testimonies of rural and urban life in the province of Málaga during the past centuries.

It was therefore in this dwelling that Pablo Picasso was born on the night of 25 October 1881. Today converted to Picasso Foundation, she studied her life and her work. Three rooms show some examples of the different ways of expression of the painter (graphic works, ceramics, illustrated books). Some temporary exhibitions will also seduce visitors, a good complement to the Picasso museum.

12 km east of Málaga, the Treasury Cave is the only maritime cave in Europe that can be visited. Cave paintings of animals and remnants of ceramics dating from Neolithic have been found. One legend states that the cave, authenticated as a former prehistoric sanctuary of the lunar goddess Noctiluce, contained a buried treasure in the th century.

At the foot of the Alcazaba, this Palacio de la Aduana (Customs Palace), projected in 1788 and finished in 1826, is a neo-classical building constructed in the way of the Italian Renaissance palaces with four spans around a central patio surrounded by portico. A former headquarters of the Royal Tobacco Factory and sub-delegation of the provincial government, since late December 2015, he has welcomed the last large pinacothe opened in Malaga after a renovation of the premises through an investment of € 40 million from the state. And now its 18,000 m ² present collections from two institutions in Malaga, the Museum of Fine Arts and the Museum of Provincial Archeology. As such, it becomes one of the first 15 museums in Spain and the largest in Andalusia. The site offers visitors a vast pictorial collection of 2,000 works made in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries with one of the best collections of Spanish paintings of the nineteenth century and works by Sorolla, Carlos de Haes, Federico Madrazo, Esquivel, Vicente López Portaña or Ramón Casas. There are also a number of paintings made by the Malaga school, including those of the most famous members: Moreno Carbonero, Enrique Simonet, Muñoz Degrain, José Nogales or Bernardo Ferrándiz. As well as a collection of Spanish modern art until the 1950 s, with works by Rafael Canogar, Juan Barjola, Óscar Domínguez or Josep Guinovart.

In the archeological fund, the place has over 15,000 pieces covering a period from the viiith century BC to the medieval period, and will be able to admire many pieces from excavations carried out by the University of Malaga in recent years. As examples, there are two particularly impressive pieces: the grave of a warrior, dated from the life of the century BC and found intact in the historic center of the city in 2012, or a mosaic representing the birth of Venus and found in the municipality of Cártama in the 1950 s.

Near the port, in addition to a centre of knowledge and activities, linked to all the world of music, this modern, interactive museum offering workshops (sound and music) and concerts, has a valuable collection of musical instruments.

One of the most representative religious monuments of the city. Dating back to the late th century, the church has a superb baroque style reissue.

For his collection of pottery and pre-Columbian art sculptures from the Americas, as well as archaeological objects of the age of bronze and the Middle Ages. With regard to pre-Columbian coins, it is a unique collection in Andalusia and the third in Spain.

Benalmadena houses a large aquarium with many marine species to contemplate (multicolores tropical fish, seahorses, sharks). In all, more than 2 000 creatures to observe.

Opened at the end of 2011, this interactive museum of the history of Nerja us (from prehistory to the tourist boom via the eight centuries of muslim presence), it is also interested in the natural and cultural heritage of the city thanks to four areas themed and ten spaces.

This natural park, which covers an area of more than 40,000 hectares, crosses the provinces of Granada and Malaga. Within La Axarquía, 8 municipalities are crossed by this park: Alcaucín, Canillas de Aceituno, Canillas de Albaida, Cómpeta, Frigiliana, Nerja, Salares and Sedella. Water has shaped the landscapes there, as it did for the Cuevas de Nerja. It is an ideal place to practice canyoning, climbing or caving, follow mycological routes and observe birds.

The tourist office is a welcoming, modern place, with a strong presence of new technologies. Visitors will find all the information they need to enjoy the town and the Axarquía region. The office also offers guided tours of the locality. The office team speaks 13 different languages, thanks to the contribution of volunteers from various countries and local residents. It offers information on the region's nature, gastronomy and culture.

It is on the highest point in the city, about 80 meters above sea level, that was built this fortress in the th century. But it was between the th and th centuries that it reached its peak by becoming one of the most important fortresses of the kingdom of Nasrid in Granada. Today, you can only see the parts of its old wall and its dungeon, torre del en, rebuilt in the 70 s. In spite of this, there is a beautiful view of the city, but also the plain of Vélez.
