Read moreDespite its name, the Casa de Teatro is much more than a theatre, it's a cultural centre where young artists exhibit their work. In the evening, you can have a drink and a bite to eat while listening to the bands and singers who perform there several times a week (starting at 10pm). Exhibitions and debates are also organized regularly. It's a very pleasant way to immerse yourself in the history of the city and to get a better understanding of its culture. JALAO
Read moreJalao is a restaurant, boutique, bar and concert venue in the capital. Beautifully decorated with all the handicrafts you can find on the island, it hasn't been empty since it opened in 2016. A program of national artists and groups is regularly updated. You can spend the whole evening there, from an aperitif at the bar, to dinner, to the musical and festive atmosphere that continues until closing time. Dominican youth and tourists mingle in a musical fraternity.

While there are several cinemas in the capital, the Palacio del Cine has the advantage of being located in the heart of the famous Blue Mall, Santo Domingo's huge shopping mall. Admittedly, the selection of films on offer is fairly uniform and largely North American, but the atmosphere is rather pleasant. It's also a good way to live a little like a local while you're in the capital. If you're feeling more energetic, you can continue the night at the Blue Mall's exclusive discotheque.
TEATRO NACIONAL EDUARDO BRITO
Read moreLocated on Máximo Gómez Avenue, the Dominican National Theater is the melting pot of the country's living arts. The building, whose construction was decided by President Joaquín Balaguer in 1970 (it was the architect Teófilo Carbonel who took charge and inaugurated the site three years later), is imposing. Although the majority of the performances offered are local, all the performing arts are represented: dance, music, theater and opera. Ask for the program!

Oriented towards young audiences, the theater can also be rented and offers shows from 5 years old.
TROPIQUES ATRIUM
Read moreInaugurated in 1998, Tropiques Atrium is based on a multidisciplinary program open to the Caribbean, Europe, and the world. This EPCC (Public Establishment for Cultural Cooperation) hosts shows, exhibitions, festivals but also animations or congresses. Equipped with two multi-purpose halls and numerous dedicated spaces, it was born from the merging of the CMAC and the Atrium and benefits from the Scène nationale label of the Ministry of Culture. The structure programs about 160 very diverse performances per season.

ANFITEATRO DE PUERTO PLATA

It is surrounded by the Fortaleza fort and La Puntilla Park. Its design and capacity of 7,000 people (5,000 in the stands and 2,000 in the surrounding green spaces) makes it one of the largest and most modern in the Caribbean.

THÉÂTRE MUNICIPAL AIMÉ-CÉSAIRE
Read moreThis former city hall has transformed into a charming little theater which offers a diverse, quality program each season. Inaugurated on September 21, 1901, after 15 years of work, the building was renamed Aimé Césaire, following the death of the great writer in 2008, who had long been based within its walls. Its neoclassical style and its facade stamped with the city's coat of arms (laurel, crown, axe, and lictors' bundle) are the pride of the Martinique people.
