MAGNOLIA’S BAKERY

Patisserie
4/5
8 reviews

You don't know New York until you've tasted Magnolia's cupcakes, those unhealthy little cakes covered in colorful icing. A famous institution in the neighborhood, especially since it was seen in the TV series Sex & the City. There is often a line, but you can go to one of the other addresses in the city (there are seven in New York). They are much less popular than the Bleecker Street shop, which was the first to be founded (in 1996), but the cupcakes are just as tasty.

ZINNEKEN'S

Patisserie
5/5
1 review

The reference in the corner when it comes to waffles, and with good reason: it was two Belgians who came up with the concept! The whole of Boston meets here for breakfast or a snack for the older children. The waffles are made to order and customized to your taste. For the base, you have the choice between the Liège waffle, gourmet with its pearl sugar inside, or the Brussels waffle, lighter. Zinneken's also has its own truck, the Waffle Truck, which paces the streets of Boston on the lookout for gourmets.

MURRAY’S BAGELS

Patisserie

Murray' S is essential by far as one of the best suppliers of bagels of Manhattan. Enter the mini trade, you have found in the mass and made as if you were what you want to avoid making you drive back to the benefit of the business guest. A bagel, that is worth it! The filling, you will be spoilt for choice. Try for example that with smoked salmon tablecloth of sour cream, classic. Specify the type of bread that you want (natural, cereals, grapes...) and you will leave your very well. Ask toasted (grilled), it is much better! And enjoy it in the street, there are few tables on site.

THE HUNGARIAN PASTRY SHOP

Patisserie

A small Hungarian café with an offbeat atmosphere, frequented by writers and Columbia University students, located a few blocks away. According to the latter, it is indeed the only real café in the neighbourhood. The pastries are excellent, and the cake parts are huge. You can judge the quality of the smooth Russian coffee, even better when topped with whipped cream.

The terrace, opposite St John The Divine, is pleasant in summer.

MOZZICATO DE PASQUALE BAKERY

Patisserie

The perfect place for a pleasant gourmet break, Italian version. In this shop with windows full of delicacies, traditional pastries, ice cream and coffee are sold in a colourful decor. The huge cakes covered with icing will attract the attention of sweet tooth (and probably scare away the others). There are a few tables inside, for those who would like to enjoy their cannoli or their huge slice of cake on the spot.

ZOOT COFFEE

Patisserie

Opened in 2006, the Zoot Coffee is a small, unpretentious place, ideal for reading your newspaper. You can have your morning coffee and enjoy homemade pastries or order a sandwich in a very "green" atmosphere. The owners of the place privilege local products and attach great importance to the respect of the environment. It is a daily stopover for many Camden residents, who appreciate the simplicity of the place and the delicious coffee, which they sometimes take to go.

CAFE GRUMPY

Patisserie

Grumpy for grumpy or grumpy, which is the opposite of the effect of the coffee at Grumpy's! This charming little establishment, two blocks from Bryant Park, is a bit off the beaten track: the coffee is excellent (it is home-roasted and the machines are apparently state-of-the-art) and the place is very pleasant. In short, this is a small café like in Europe, where they serve good coffee like in Italy with an efficient American service! Let's accompany it with a delicious pastry: muffin, cookie, pie...

BLACKBIRD DOUGHNUTS

Patisserie

To start the day in the most American way, stop by this shop that offers completely homemade doughnuts, much better than the famous chain that can be found all over the United States. Flavors vary with the seasons, but the great classics are available all year round. If you were to try just one, it would be Boston Cream, made with vanilla cream, which is the specialty of the city. The place also offers excellent coffee and tea.

JOLIE TEA COMPANY

Patisserie

A very cute little tea room, which offers a huge variety of teas and herbal teas from all over the world. The decoration, rather chic, is of Parisian inspiration. The La Petite Tea menu allows you to enjoy a tea (served in a teapot) accompanied by a macaroon, a scone and a madeleine. In the High Tea menu, served only on Saturdays, chocolate truffles and a selection of small sandwiches are added to the menu. Everything is well done. It is also possible to buy boxes of macaroons or single cookies. For a delicious snack break.

COLSON PATISSERIE

Patisserie €€

This pretty French-style pastry offers you mouth-watering pies, muffins, palm trees and cake pieces for a snack, but also beautiful fresh salads and sandwiches for lunch. The hot drinks are excellent, the coffee is worthy to be served in a coffee shop. You can enjoy all this on the small terrace in summer, or in Prospect Park, which is ten minutes walk away. For the record, Colson was born in Belgium, so you won't be surprised to see delicious Liège waffles in the window!

SUPERMOON BAKEHOUSE

Patisserie

The rival of the cronut (the famous halfway croissant/donut pastry created by French chef Dominique Ansel) is the cruffin, a cross between a croissant and a muffin that was born in this shop. It's good and rich as can be, so if you're on a diet and looking for something a little lighter, know that Supermoon also makes croissants. As long as you avoid the delicious ones that are double-filled, of course... The candy pink shop, with its BITE ME, NYC boxes stacked against the wall, is very cute.

FERRARA BAKERY & CAFE

Glacier

This Italian pastry shop was founded in 1892, and has never moved or closed since, even during the Great Depression of the 1930s. Today, Ferrara remains a family affair with fifth generation pastry chefs behind the stove. This institution claims to be the first espresso bar to open in the United States, we don't know if it's true, but in any case we love the authentic, no-frills setting and the rich cakes and ice cream. Try it at least once.
