A home-made cuisine prepared on a daily basis with local products that will delight those who come in search of the authenticity of Cretan, Greek and Mediterranean flavours. To taste:apaki (smoked Cretan sausage marinated in vinegar), saffron risotto, pasta with shrimps and mussels, lamb with rosemary and feta..

An excellent address, isolated and quiet, located on the old port of Kissamos. The small terrace is right on the waterfront with its moored fishing boats. The fish is extra fresh and the squid or stuffed cuttlefish are to die for! The Greek salad is fresh and well-stocked. The service is family oriented, with the grandmother at the stove and the daughter in the dining room, while the granddaughter plays with the children passing by and the many cats, attracted by the smell. A nice and pleasant interlude.

The best fish restaurant in the village at moderate prices and with a view. On a large and very pleasant terrace right on the waterfront, you can choose fish and local specialities in the window. Everything is very good, the dishes are generous, the service is a little slow but really friendly, the French speaking waiter takes the time to detail each dish. This allows you to contemplate the boats and the crystal clear turquoise water while having a very good time. In addition to fish, seafood and a variety of other dishes are served.

In front of St. George's church, you can spot this charming tavern: a subdued atmosphere in an old house with a very nice shaded garden and an interior space decorated with care. Bougainvilleas, palm trees and a lot of flower pots make the evenings even more summery. You come here to eat fresh fish (more expensive per kilo) which is spread out on the pretty little caique in front of the entrance. Several dishes inspired by Greek-Cretan cuisine are also offered, as well as various dishes and salads. Perfect for a romantic dinner.

Traditional restaurant renovated in 2013 which enjoys a beautiful view of the sea and the caves. Fish specialities, cheap and of good quality (be careful, as always for fresh fish, check the price per kilo and choose your fish before ordering, so as not to have any bad surprises when you check out!) Large terrace where live bands play live music from time to time. The place is often full in the evenings, in high season, so we recommend that you book for large tables.

As far as the setting is concerned, the restaurant has a huge terrace spread over two floors. Sea view guaranteed at each plate. The music is extremely well chosen, a mix of jazz and pop in remix chill immediately pushes us to relax and our gaze is quickly lost on the incredible panoramic sea view that the Compass offers on the bay of Chora. View disturbed only by the waltz of the ferries.... which will delight the youngest.

The must-see Rousios farm is located high up on the Sfakia plateau at the entrance to Samaria. This is where all the ingredients served in his tavern come from, including thyme honey. Of all the rooftops in Lindos, this one particularly appeals to us. Firstly, for the view it offers, probably one of the most beautiful in the village. Then there's the ambience of the place, which is hushed and quiet when the restaurant is open, then gradually transforms into a rooftop bar. The dishes are not to be outdone, well-crafted and elegantly served, not to mention the exquisite cocktails. The establishment is run by Théo, a former DJ, which explains the permanent presence of a DJ at the turntables, and special guests on Fridays and Saturdays. A great place to eat or party.

A dream decor at the Pirates of the Caribbean both inside and outside for this multi-colored, atypical restaurant. Here you feel relaxed immediately when you arrive, the view is splendid, we eat on the edge of the relaxing water. Fresh daily fish chosen in the window, but also original dishes. There is a wide selection of Cretan entries, five varieties of soups, various grills, Greek dishes… on the back of reggae music, of course. The atmosphere is so representative of Matala that we cannot miss it.

Opened in 1965, it was the first restaurant in this place called also «fisherman's square». This was the meeting of the fishermen who were feeding fresh fish daily. At the corner of the port, recognizable with its terrace, you can easily find this family restaurant. Taste seafood specialties and fresh fish. Be careful, as always with fresh fish in Greece: check the price per kilo so you don't have a bad surprise at the time of the addition that can rise very fast.

Dinner just a few meters from the beach, what a delight! Especially when, on top of that, the food is tasty. The Kalidon restaurant is located by the sea, near the small port of Elounda. On a floating platform you can taste traditional Greek dishes as well as international cuisine arranged to local taste. A wide variety of fresh fish is always on the daily menu. The reception is really friendly, in addition to the originality of the restaurant on the water. On the other hand, for typical dishes, you pay a little more than elsewhere.

This restaurant serves typical Cretan dishes flavoured with the island's many herbs. The waiters are professional and will advise you very well, both on the choice of wines and on the refined dishes. We also offer meat roasted over a wood fire, slowly cooking in front of your eyes. Some dishes are covered with a bell to keep them warm but, above all, the inside is covered with herbs which, thanks to their aroma and flavour, give the meat a unique aroma and taste. It's a beach restaurant - the one at the far end on the right as you enter Bali. Here you can eat simple but good Cretan food, lulled by the sound of the waves. The grilled meat mix for two is recommended... but there are also homemade dishes, fresh fish and a varied menu. The dishes are carefully prepared and the food is hearty, which is not always usual in this kind of establishment. The setting is friendly and pleasant, as is the staff. Good classic Cretan cuisine (tarama, garlic bread, saganaki shrimps, grilled sea bream, lamb in sauce...), with a welcome like the Cretans know how to make. The staff is smiling. The traditional glass of raki and the small plate of pastries are always offered with joy at the end of the meal. There are a lot of regulars, it's relaxed.

This tavern is located within the walls of a 16th century ruin, under cool and welcoming trees. The collapsed roof of the Venezia Loggia has never been rebuilt and people now eat outdoors. During the day, the restaurant is a pleasant break in the shade of the trees, while in the evening you come to listen to live traditional music and enjoy good food accompanied by a Cretan beer or a glass of homemade wine. At the port, on the waterfront in the old town, this tavern was created in 1936 by the Frangiadaki family. It is run by Nikos, a French-speaking man, who prepares, with organic products from his farm, traditional cuisine at reasonable prices. Other specialties are stuffed zucchini flowers, snails in rosemary tomato sauce, good quality grilled octopus, cuttlefish in wine, keftés, or swordfish. Kertos is a fish and seafood specialty restaurant. On the promenade of Nea Chora, quietly, facing the sea, you can enjoy lunch and dinner, especially for seafood. Polite servers, good atmosphere, reasonable price: no reason not to go! In July and August you will need to think about booking because it is rare to find space, especially when you are in small group.

Sitting comfortably in armchairs overlooking the sea and the port of Agios Nikolaos in the distance, you can have lunch, dinner, just a drink, or just relax on a mattress in the grass and the large soothing car-free park while being lulled by pleasant modern music. A unique place in Agios Nikolaos hidden at the back of the city with a lounge atmosphere to be tested with your eyes closed. Impeccable cleanliness everywhere. Very beautiful beach of fine golden sand.

This pretty tavern, shaded by large tamarisk trees and located a few steps from the sea, is the domain of^Mrs. Eleni. There she prepares traditional dishes, cooked as at home, with products from her garden. Among the dishes not to be missed are the melting lamb from the Ziros hills, the succulent kakavia (fish soup) or the snails with tomato and onion sauce. Fresh fish and shellfish, grilled or simmered in different sauces, are of excellent quality. Also on the menu: grilled meats and various dishes.

Stachi is a family tavern where the Cretan diet of the past is followed, when meat was scarce on the table. Most of the raw materials come from the organic vegetable garden of Stelios Michelakis, the owner, and he makes the bread every day with his own yeast. A no-frills establishment, but already well known for the quality of its dishes: mushroom stew, stuffed zucchini flowers, home-made yoghurt, herbal turnovers... The menu varies according to the season. Very good value for money. Vegans. Vegetarians.

Settled since 1976 on the port of Agia Galini, Faros is a small traditional and family tavern as we like it. The speciality is of course fresh fish, shellfish and seafood: the menu varies according to the arrivals. The fresh fish is displayed in a special window at the entrance of the establishment: it is chosen and weighed in the presence of the customer. As always in this case, check the weight per kilo and ask how much the animal weighs before it is prepared, this will avoid unpleasant surprises.

This tavern opened its doors in the first building built in Elounda in 1906. It is a family tavern located in the town square by the sea. The locals proudly recount that Victoria Hislop, author of The Island of the Forgotten, whose plot is set on Spinalonga Island, is said to have sat there. On the edge of the St Antonio gorges, in this so quiet and secluded place, the Drimos tavern is a nice surprise, especially after a long walk. In the middle of an exuberant nature, the owners serve a typical and local cuisine of quality, prepared with good local products. Many animals are raised on site and are part of daily life. Fruits and vegetables are fresh from the owners' garden! Taste, among others, the rice pilaf, gamopilafo, this Cretan speciality (sometimes with goat), served at weddings and parties.

The location of this restaurant, overlooking the sea and the island of Naxos off the coast, is reason enough to sit down. And to top it all off, the food is as exquisite as the location! Established in Lefkes since 1997, Agnadio specializes in meat, offering spit-roasted meats and exceptional grills. But of course, good meat is not enough to make a good address: here you'll also find excellent fresh local vegetables and Mediterranean dishes, both vegetarian and seafood-based. A real delight!

Don't hesitate to pass the door of this venerable institution in Fira that is Naoussa. First of all, you go there for its spectacular view of the caldera - try to book a good table, you won't regret it - and secondly for its prices which know how to stay wise. The menu features traditional dishes, including excellent stews and keftedes (meatballs) with tomato. We appreciate the pleasant service, which is not necessarily the case elsewhere on this tourist island.

Refined cuisine and breathtaking views... You can have lunch or dinner there, and enjoy the beach at its feet. Like the sophisticated hotel it depends on, this restaurant with gastronomic impulses is also one of the best on the island with notably very good fresh fish to choose from in the kitchen. Without being a guest of the hotel, one can come here for a madness (a lobster) or for a more affordable seafood risotto preceded, for example, by a carpaccio of octopus... And each time, the friendliness of the staff is remarkable.

It's like the tavern sitting on the beach, abandoned. Opened in the 1960s, at the foot of the rocks, this tavern, which remained in its original state, is crowded in summer. Here, the keftedes (meatballs from Kostas) are famous as well as its jugs of local wines. An unmissable address at the end of the beach.

This establishment, attached to a butcher's shop, is an institution. On Sundays, the animals cook here on a spit and intoxicate passers-by. Of course, you have to love meat! But the restaurant also allows you to eat on the go a souvlaki or a gyros to take away.

On the beach of Périvolos near Perissa, this fish and seafood restaurant is a nice surprise. But it cannot be reduced to seafood, moussaka, for example, is delicious. We appreciate the pretty platform with the bar and the swimming pool on the beach, an ideal setting for resting outside the hustle and bustle of Fira. In addition, Edmond the French-speaking boss offers sun loungers to all French people! A good listener...

A good restaurant near the sea with a nice shaded terrace. You will be with your feet in the water, almost literally, which gives this restaurant with its Italian accents an extra romantic feel. The menu is more Greek than the name of the establishment suggests but does not disappoint: gavros (anchovies), sardines and grilled octopus are on the menu. The menu is in Greek, English and French. There is plenty of choice with quality products. Perfect reception and service, professional and friendly.

Even if the most recommended establishment in the village is a pizza pizzeria, the restaurant remains very authentic. Classic card but homemade pizza cooked in open kitchens. And then, above all, this little view: on the other side of the port, its windows open onto the sea. Beware, it is often stormed!

A 15 minute drive from Marmari, this tavern lost in the land is worth a visit. Direction Paradisi for a stop in a family tavern. Far from the coast, there is little or no fish (a few gavros) and mostly meat dishes, some of which are produced here. Beef, pork and even wild boar on certain days. We especially appreciate the place at noon, for its terrace, and the possibilities of stroll which it offers around. Also on the menu, an excellent homemade pita that we recommend you finish at the hotel or the next day.

Family restaurant where very good fresh fish is served, but also meat or vegetable dishes. Traditional dessert is usually offered. The staff is very hospitable. It is recommended to book because the place, strong from its reputation, is often crowded.

One of the most famous seafood and fish restaurants in the old town. As always when it comes to fresh fish, it's not cheap but the portions are generous and the quality is high. Choose the fisherman's tray to share, or a selection of dishes, also to share, including the excellent saganaki of mussels or shrimps. It's delicious, and the setting, facing the ruins of Sainte-Marie-du-Bourg church, is the icing on the cake!

Cooking a burger may seem easy, but the Burger Lab takes its art a step further. First, the quality of the ingredients is impeccable, with buns and breads prepared and baked on site. Then with sweet potato fries that rival no less tasty truffle fries. Finally, with sophisticated burgers: try the salmon burger, a gustatory masterpiece with black bread buns. To enjoy this, a nice white courtyard or a rooftop with a breathtaking view of the acropolis and the church tower.
