ASSOCIATION DES MARAÎCHERS DE BOURGES
Created in 1998, the Association des Maraîchers de Bourges (AMB) now has over 500 members. More than 1,000 owners share the marshes, which are divided into 1,500 plots ranging in size from 50 m² to 7,000 m²! The AMB's mission is to protect and preserve the marshes by encouraging amateur gardeners (the last professional left in 1976) to continue cultivating their plots. Assistance is provided to tenants and owners to help them maintain their plots and surrounding areas (training, workshops, leaflets). A travelling exhibition has been touring the département for the past 3 years, raising public awareness of the beauty and fragility of these eco-systems. Far from the gloomy marshes of Romanesque novels, the Bourges marshes are maintained to balance flora and fauna with human activity. Everyone can enjoy a walk with family or friends in this natural setting in the heart of the city.
