WAY OF THE CROSS OF CALLAC
The Callac Way of the Cross is located in an old slate quarry. It was created in 1947 on the initiative of Father Ernest Binard (1900-1987), whose first idea was to create a replica of the cave of Lourdes. The site also includes a 16th century stone fountain, donated by a family from Saint-Malo-des-Trois-Fontaines, and the Saint-Joseph chapel. The latter was built from 1960 to 1962, still on the idea of Abbot Binad, from the stones of an old chapel then located 15 km away. A large part of the site was built with the help of the local population and four Breton sculptors, including 3 from Callac, to whom we owe the 57 life-size granite statues. The site was modernized in 1997. The fifteenth station representing the tomb of Christ dates from 2008. Father Binard rests in the chapel.
