Misunderstood, ignored, sometimes hidden, the Vilaine is discreet for the inhabitants of the Rennes region. However, this river has allowed the establishment and development of the city and its region. A key element of the local heritage, the Vilaine is now an asset for the future. Through the history of this river, from the 16th century to the present day, and its role in local biodiversity, the temporary exhibition presented at the Ecomusée de Rennes aims to provide the keys to understanding a heritage in the process of being re-appropriated. The exhibition is an invitation to explore the different facets of the river: its hydrological functioning, its historical and economic role for the Rennes region, the challenge represented by its navigability, the small world of its bargemen with their very special boats, but also its quality as an ecological corridor and the richness of its ecosystems, without forgetting its potential for bucolic escapes for city dwellers. Between boat models, 18th century watercolour shots, naturalised birds, mammals and fish, small treasures of amateur films and large immersive films, the exhibition blends past, present and future dreams to give you a feel for Vilaine's entire life - unsuspected. A natural, cultural and landscape heritage to discover and share..
