EMMANUEL DE LA VILLEON MUSEUM

Specialized museum
5/5
2 reviews

Housed in the only porch house on the street, the museum itself is an exceptional place that was preserved during the Second World War. It should be recalled that most of the porch houses were destroyed in the fires that ravaged the city in the 17th century and during the June 1944 bombardment. The Emmanuel de la Villéon Museum allows you to get to know this impressionist painter better, namely that he was born in Fougères in 1858. This museum gathers his works, from his first painting at 17 years old on a thick oak door, to one of his last paintings of January 1944. This painter is still known as a renowned landscape painter and an avant-garde colourist who was able to meet the greatest independent painters of his time. Emmanuel de la Villéon has been able to experiment with many styles and influences throughout his career. This collection of oils, pastels, gouaches, charcoals and inks should appeal to painters.
