Petit Futé's opinion on CAPUCHIN WORKSHOPS

Vintage plate 2020

This industrial cathedral, located in the heart of the Recouvrance district, is a place dear to the people of Brest. This building, a former convent known as the Capuchin convent, created by Vauban in 1695 and which gave its name to the district, was transformed in the 19th century into barracks and then into an industrial workshop, run by naval workers. Today, the Ateliers are a place of exchange and culture where restaurants and shops are gradually being set up. The immense media library is a unique place where one can read, relax, exchange but also get information and play, thanks to dedicated areas. It is associated with a central public space which, when it is not hosting exhibitions or shows, is a convivial place where walkers, rollerbladers, skateboarders and dancers meet in a joyful melting pot in the image of the city. The Workshops also host a cooperation space dedicated to young innovative companies, the Village. The national centre for street arts (Le Fourneau), a cinema, a climbing wall, as well as numerous spaces dedicated to artistic creation are brought together in the 25,000 m² building aspiring to mix cultural diffusion and artistic production. A must in Brest! This district is served both by the tramway (Les Capucins station on line A) and by the Brest cable car, the first urban cable car for public transport use in France, which connects the two banks of the Penfeld (the lower part of the Rue de Siam and the Plateau des Capucins).

Enfin !
