The Museum of Fine Arts, located in the city center, presents paintings and graphic arts related to Breton culture.
Located in the city centre of Brest, the Museum of Fine Arts was destroyed in 1941, as was most of the city, when it was bombed by the Allied forces. It reopened its doors in 1968 and has since built up a collection of nearly 10,000 objects. Paintings, sculptures and graphic arts, international objects or objects linked to Breton culture are displayed side by side to bear witness to the history of art from the end of the 16th century to the present day. Permanent and temporary exhibitions, most often accompanied by a catalogue, cross paths and set the pace of the museum's life, which likes to offer visitors a constantly renewed view of its collections. Note: the museum also has an art library. Since 1983, residents of Brest have been able to borrow works of art and experience "art at home" for the first time. An overview of the works is available in the dedicated area on the right-hand side at the entrance to the museum. Whether you are a tourist passing through or a resident of Brest, do not neglect this area dedicated to Fine Arts and culture and do not fall into the prejudice of the "provincial museum". You could miss out on a decisive artistic encounter. On the ground floor, you will discover a painting by Manet, works by François Dilasser, lithographs by Sonia Delaunay, all great names in French painting, and as many guaranteed emotions. Upstairs, the room reserved for a more classical art will undoubtedly convince you. In short, art takes first place here!
