COLLECTION BRIDGE
A remarkable lift bridge linking the rue de Siam to the Recouvrance district, one of the oldest symbols of Brest.
Completed in 1954 to replace the revolving bridge called "National", which was destroyed during the Second World War, this construction of 88 metres long, and whose each pylon is 70 m high, has long been the longest lift bridge in Europe. It is one of the oldest Brest symbols, favourite topic of all photographers, amateurs and professionals. This lift bridge, which overlooks the arsenal and the military port and connects Siam street to Recouvrance neighbourhood, separates the two banks of the city and its inhabitants: the "Yannicks", right bank, and "Ti-Zefs", left bank. It still represents the history of the construction of the city, which had initially settled around Penfeld. In 2011, thanks to the works made necessary by the passage of the tramway, it was given a facelift. A new mobile span, five-metre longer, was laid and corbels allow pedestrians to enjoy a larger and secured walk space.
