SAINT MICHAEL'S CHAPEL
From the 13th century, the Saint-Michel island, linked to the mainland by a valley, belongs to the Cistercian abbey of Saint-Aubin-des-Bois, who established fishery and a chapel there. In 1790, the island became a communal property. In 1880, the municipality and a popular subscription financed the construction of a new chapel, whose belltower is topped by a cast-iron statue of Saint Michael defeating the devil. Before the Revolution, the monks celebrated mass here once a year, at Saint-Michel, on the 29th september, but under a ship sail, because the chapel was falling into ruins. From 2002, the chapel was entirely renovated by a team volunteer. Until 2005, nearly 15 tons of materials went up to the summit of the island to rehabilitate the chapel. A doris, a traditional boat, were used for the occasion.
