Between the Basilica of Sainte-Marie-Madeleine and the church of Saint-Jacques d'Asquins, this Romanesque chapel was built between 1146 and 1170 on the spot where knights and kings came to listen to the abbot of Citeaux preaching the Second Crusade. Dedicated to the Holy Cross, it takes its name from Cordelle, the Franciscans' belt. Among its most famous visitors, King St. Louis, who was visiting Vézelay. The chapel is also the starting point of the road to Assisi with a blessing of the pilgrims by the friars.
